Outstanding book!
From my understanding the whole "Mr. X" thing was sort of a sham if you will by Jay Abraham to release a lower price-point product without it hurting the sales of his multi-thousand dollar products-- regardless it is a very fine book that covers many important topics as they relate to marketing and copywriting. And while it was written pre-Internet, many of the applications apply to anyone marketing via the net.
For me it's a difficult book to classify because it isn't pure "copywriting" nor is it pure "marketing" strategy. It just sorta bobs & weaves back & forth through both areas-- pretty successfully I may add. To me, Jay is like Dan Kennedy in that I believe he's "marketer" first and a "copywriter" second while I look at Gary Halbert and John Carlton and see them as "copywriters" first and "marketers" second-- I'm not sure what this last comment has to do with the book... I just felt like throwing it out there.
