Default Cialdini's new "Yes!" book is a winner - got it yet? - 06-28-2008, 01:50 PM

Hi - just curious if anyone else has gotten Cialdini's newly-released "Yes!" book on persuasion? I bought it and read it, it's terrific with a lot more business (vs academia) case studies, just released a few weeks ago.

You can check out my review on amazon too for it, at:

Amazon.com: Yes!: 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be Persuasive: Noah J. Goldstein, Steve J. Martin, Robert B. Cialdini: Books

It's well done, adds to his earlier "Influence" book w/new business case studies.... one of the top books to buy this year imho..

And thanks to Michel for initially recommending "Influence" to me years ago, I use Cialdini's techniques in my marketing every month.

-k

I got it and like it. It breaks down the methods of influence in to nice bite sized chunks.

Sorry to admit I'm late to the Cialdini party... I just picked up "Influence" last week. I'm excited about reading it.

In fact I was thinking of starting a book club thread where some of us could read along and discuss. Anyone interested?

Awesome, Andy! (now I'm REALLY excited)

What seems reasonable? Chapter a week?

Kevin, if you put something together, I'm in as long as you do all the work setting it up. .

Will definitely be picking up Cialdini's new book. Thanks for the reminder, Ken.

Everything Cialdini has put out is first rate. Most impressive is his methods are backed by solid scientific research.

The two audio CD Influence set, available from his website, is great to listen to in the car. Tony Robbins also did an outstanding interview with him a few years back in which Cialdini explains which of the six principles of influence is most powerful.

The "Yes!" book will be in my next box of Amazon goodies in a few weeks -- am looking forward to the business case studies Ken mentioned. I really liked Influence: Science and Practice and it is one of the first books I'd recommend for learning about persuasion tactics.

And I'm looking forward to Kevin's thread discussing Influence too.

When I first read Influence, it changed my whole perspective in a big way.

I mean, I had always known marketers out there somewhere were doing things that had effects on me which flew under my radar. (Not to mention con artists too.)

Now I know what a lot of them are.

So I can choose to avoid them as a consumer.

I can choose to use them as a marketer. (ethically, of course)

And, perhaps most importantly, I can educate my future wife on how to avoid them too!

Does that sound like money in the bank, or what?

PS. Another book which is perhaps even more profound, but in a "world changing" way more so than a marketing way, is Influencer by the VitalSmarts people. Awesome book.
