Default This website just doesn't convert - 06-09-2008, 11:48 AM

Hi Everyone,

It says first time posters welcome, so here goes...

I have a website that doesn't convert. It gets a steady trickle of visitors to the squeeze page (809 last month), and 139 of them requested more information. There have been 214 visits to the "more info" page, so some people revisit after getting my follow up e-mails. Yet I haven't made a single sale! Not one! Nada! Zip! That said, I did get an e-mail from a guy in Bangladesh who said he'd like to buy the product, but wasn't allowed to because of currency restrictions.

Before I start tinkering with the copy, any pointers as to things I ought to change would be much appreciated.

Squeeze page URL: The Knack of Managing and Supervising
Sales (more info) page: The Knack of Managing and Supervising

Many thanks,

Shaun Pearce (The Video Guy)

So what do people get once they give you their email address? Do they go straight to your sales letter?

My thoughts are that a lot of people think they'll be getting something a little more tangible than a longer sales pitch.

What I mean is - so far you've gotten them to give you something (their information) and you've given NOTHING in return (if I understand this right). You've already under-delivered, so what's their incentive to take the next step.

My thinking is that you're going to have to nurture a better relationship if you want to sell to your subscribers.

A good rule to live by:

Your prospects aren't whores. Don't treat them so.

This would make an interesting headline on someone's sales page.

They get the first video (it's embedded in the sales page) and the first chapter. They also get a PDF report, and an audio download of a webinar I did a few months back sent to them as part of my follow up autoresponder series.

That's a good idea, Suzanne. I think I'll write an article with that headline and send it out with my next newsletter.

You don't explain on your squeeze page that these items are available to your visitors. If you did, would you get more than the 17% who go on to the sales page?

And, as it stands at present, of the ones who do continue on, if they don't read far down into the sales info, they still don't know you're giving them a free video, PDF report, and audio download. Do a considerable number leave the sales page early? Would they read farther if they knew beforehand that the freebies were there?

And if they are leaving early, why? From my viewpoint only, I'm not especially attracted by your headline or lead. What exactly will your product do for me? What specific benefits are laid out early for me in the sales page?

I see some general statements, a general testimonial, then a few screens of information about you. Maybe I'd like to read more about you later, if I'm interested in your product, that is. But for now, I'm interested in me and in the time I'm spending reading your sales page. I don't have a lot of it to spare.

You then start to describe the product, but I'm still not seeing specific benefits to me and before I get to your video, PDF, etc., I'm gone. Too much wasted time. Perhaps if you'd hooked me in the very beginning, I'd have stayed around a little longer.

What are the burning issues for managers? What can you say to them that will have them absolutely longing to find out about your product? Were you ever in their shoes? For what would they part with $995 of their money (or their company's)? Can you write that into your headline and lead and move them forward a little farther into your copy? Do you have metrics that tell you where they're leaving your copy?

Whether keeping them reading is the problem and whether if they do they would convert better, I don't know. Just some immediate thoughts.

Oh man this is so ****ing easy I wonder why nobody has pointed this out yet.

YOU HAVENT BUILT VALUE

Okay I pay a thousand dollars to learn to become an expert manager and what do I get once I become a manager? A 50k a year salary? **** that!

I can go buy Product Launch Formula with the promises of making millions of dollars sitting on my ass writing emails.

SECONDLY and again I cant believe you guys havent pointed this out

You Are Targetting The Wrong Market!!!!!!!!

Your targeting is WAY off. You have to be going after the business owners with serious coin (aka Players With Money) and show them how your course is going to improve their managers performance, which in turn is going to boost sales... and make them lots and lots of money!

And go buy all of Dan Kennedys No BS Success Books, theyre like $20 and will be one of the best investments youve ever made.

Thanks for clarifying that. It's not real obvious, and as PQA said, it needs to be pointed out better. Also pointed out that the big benefit (more money) should be talked about on the sales page.

Right now, the link doesn't work (for the free chapter). I'm not sure if that's for testing period, or if maybe that's the BIG reason you're not converting. Get those links working. And then make them more obvious.

I'm not sure I would work hard on making them obvious in the squeeze page yet. Since you're already getting subscribers, you might just flaunt it as a bonus.

If people are reading your report/sample chapter (I haven't because the link isn't working), you might be making your mistake there. Your samples should give them powerful information. Things that your target will actually be able to use. But the information should be somewhat incomplete. And it should act as bait for the rest of the book.

Think of it like sending a guy a page out of playboy. Only you tear away the oomph section. The guy looks at it and can visualize what the rest might look like, but he really wants to see the rest of that page.

Your report/chapter should be sexy. It has to make something click in their head--"Oh, that's how that works!" But at the same time, it has to say,

Quote:
"Now I'll show you exactly how to put this plan into action in chapter X...and believe me, you'll need to read that chapter before executing your strategy or else it will NEVER work. For now, just remember that this is what goes on in the heads of your employees."
If your samples are well written and if they have sexy tidbits of information, your sales page will convert.

Best of luck,
Erice:>

Shaun,

maximus may sound harsh but if you really GET what he's saying, you'll know why you're missing out on a potential flood of sales.

pls pay particular attention to the words i've bolded

in short, you're selling them the DRILL when what they really want is the HOLE. Yes, the FRIGGIN' HOLE.

food for thought.

Wow, thanks for the feedback.

Maximus and Johnson, what you said made perfect sense. I'm kicking myself now for not seeing it - it so obvious.

Eric, I've fixed the link to the free chapter. I like the quote, BTW, with your permission I'd like to paraphrase it into my copy somewhere.

PQA, thanks for your input. I can see I really need to work hard or refiguring the copy and hooking people in with benefits right from the start.

I'll post another entry when I've updated the site. In the meantime, If anone else would like to post a comment please feel free to do so.
