Default What is wrong/right with this newsletter signup page? - 11-28-2007, 11:27 AM

Hi there Folks,

Just wondering if you could view my newsletter signup page and tell me what is right and what is wrong.

My newsletter subscription is so small and I wanted a few hints on what might work on the page:

So is your signup page.

Try offering more value before showing them the opt-in box. Give them some reasons why it would be beneficial to them to sign up for your newsletter.

Hello Jchandler,

One problem may be that not many want to hear about Windows Media Player updates. But having said that, you need a better headline. Try this one:

HEADLINE:

Want to Get the Most Out of Your Windows Media Player?

SUBHEAD:

Sign up for our free monthly newsletter and get All the tips, tricks, and secrets you can handle!

Then, just write a paragraph or two explaining the benefits of your newsletter. That should boost your response rate!

What percentage of your visitors are you converting to subscribers?

The girls are right - you need to sell the benefits of your newsletter better and I think Rachel's suggestions are good ones. Ask a few of your subscribers how much they like your newsletter and include their photo and a testimonial from them too.

Is that SBI I see you're using? If so, have you read "Make Your Site Sell"? You can learn a lot about writing good copy from that book and since it's free now I'd highly recommend it.

Steve

Here are some questions that you can ask that will help you figure out what is right/wrong with the optin page.

What are the people who visit your website looking for?

What can you offer, through the newsletter, to that helps fulfill what your visitors are looking for?

How are you funneling people to your opt-in page? Is there a way to put the opt-in page in front of more people?

What is the conversion rate of your opt-in page?

Are there any unnecessary elements to your opt-in page?

Are any powerful reasons to subscribe NOT being communicated on the opt-in page?

What is the single most powerful benefit anyone could possibly ever get from the information provided in the newsletter?

How much time elapses, on average, between the time a visitor lands on the optin page, and then subscribes?

Are there any tanbible bonuses you could offer someone for subscribing? Is there something that you can make exclusively available to your subscribers?

What are people missing if they don't subscribe? What have they already missed? What are they going to miss in the future?

Has anyone endorsed your newsletter?

Has anyone received interesting/unusual/remarkable results from the info in your newsletter?

Do you have an unusual/compelling reason to publish your newsletter?
