Default New unique Website - Lots of visiters but not many sales - 05-16-2006, 05:13 PM

Hi,

I've been told that there are 1000's of you on this forum that can help me make my project a success.

So far I have been only able to sell to people whom I have personally explained though email, blog or forums. Many new people are coming to the site but they are not buying it.

First of all, the site is at http://www.oozm.com - a people driven search engine and an open directory listing. Unique concept and it is the first one of its kind to allow people to drive a search engine. It also provides information on all the search terms (in time).

Here is what I am trying to sell to raise my initial capital:

1) People get to buy individual keyword searh result pages, that means if they purchase the keyword "Business", then they will receive all the people searching for information on their page ( i.e., http://www.oozm.com/business ).

2) People will benefit from owning good keywords

3) If they buy it now, they get to renew it in a year.

My problem is that I have sold many keywords through personal sales but I am not capturing people when they come to my site.

Am I not getting the same message on the site through:

http://www.oozm.com/OOZM:Buy_Keywords

or

http://www.oozm.com/OOZM:About

or

am I just missing the whole darn sales page?

Please help me understand this. I am receiving in excess of over 1500 unique visitors a day since the launch (may 9th, 2006). People are creating pages and so on but they are not buying. They are not getting the point that this is the first of its kind, if it makes it to the media (my next problem), they will make a lot more through good keywords.

What am I doing wrong?

Next, I've sent out a media release on the 14th through PRWEB. Over 40,000 people and over 600 media outlets picked up the release but not any contact from any media. What is wrong with my release?

http://www.oozm.com/search/index.php/OOZM:Oozm_Launch

I can't keep selling through personal sales. I am going to loose out to another competitor who may steal my idea and make a fortune. Please help me understand my mistake.

Thank you.

Aside from your copy, You really need to give proof that your site is cooking with traffic.

You said it yourself (in the post above):

If I were you, I'd be SCREAMIN' it from the rooftops and simply back your statements up with solid, undeniable "PROOF"!

Easy to do...

just take a few screenshots of your traffic stats and display it with circles around high numbers (much like you did on your "buy_keywords" page).

No, not 1000's. "Some" is more correct.

Yes, your terms and conditions page needs to be replaced with a real honest sales letter. Pick one from the "Library" in my sig file link and start to create one for yourself.

In addition to that, get a cheap programmer to get you a live feed of your traffic. I used to do this with my Atari. I just set up an active part of computer memory, and linked it to screen memory. You could see the computer "thinking". Anyway, there is a hack out there from Eastern-Bukrania who can create a LIVE graphic of traffic on your site. Just get an example of it ahead of time.

Or a simpler idea is to Do as Stephen advised and update the traffic graphic every couple of days. I quess that would be easy enough.

The Topic your looking for is "Social Proof".

But its true. You don't have a sales page. You have a sales post-it note.

And its in a font that people well versed in English will have a hard time reading. Only about 5 fonts are "allowed". Just use arial or times or tahoma in italics.

Looking in again, you msy sell the site with your emotions.

But people who look at the site say...

" I buy a search result, and the more relevant I make the results,
the less adsense money I make. So I should buy pages and make them as irelevant as possible."

I don't know if the concept will fly.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I have created the terms and so on. I am working on the traffic portion of your comments. I think that is a great idea.

I need some feedback on my Buy Keywords page. I think that is my sales page because that is where people are landing first. That is the page that is going to make them either to buy or pass on. Could you please take a look at this page and provide me with some feedback.

http://www.oozm.com/OOZM:Buy_Keywords

Also if you are a writer and can assist me on this for a low cost, please message me.

Skywriter: Thanks for your comments. You are right that people may think like that. However you have to realize that the owner of the page does not have the sole power to control the contents or the url listing. Anyone can contribute to that. Also this is not just about adsense. Many are buying to place their own ads on the top to their own pages. I will just to wait and see how it goes.

Thank you again for all your help through this board.

Ah....that does make a difference. For a low cost option. go to my library and follow the pattern of whatever sales page suit you. Print out one of the sales pages and re-write your keywords page along the same lines. Its what I would do, but it'll cost you less and you have a better handle on how things work.

Guna,

This is a critique board so you need to have a thick skin when you ask us to review cuz...

Your press release is horrific.

You don't write a press release the same way you write a sales message. In fact news editors are likely to trash it if they smell any advertising. The press release is full of quotes from the president promoting the product - wrong time!

That might explain why, although it was sent to all of them, none picked up the story because theyre getting things marketed to them.

As for the site, it confused me as a new visitor.

What does:

""More relevant results because they are rated by REAL people, not Robots"

Mean? You and I may know but your average user - what does that mean? And do they care? Whats the benefit of being rated by real people and not robots? Your answer to that question may be a good replacement for a tag line.

Under what is OOZM...

"To empower the people in their journey through the internet system, providing them with integrated information and services tools that will enable them to become the creator of the new information portal."

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Talk to your audience, not to some geek.

Throughout the site youre talking way over their heads, or in cyber Greek.

I hoep this helps.

Why do you think there is any problem with your press release? It performed its function perfectly just as you wrote it. ZOOM (you spell it wrong) is a great idea and your press release spells out how great it is. Nobody called because you already gave them all the answers. If your press release presented interesting questions, they might have called. Did you intend to cause a flurry of questions? Then that's how you should have written it.
