Default Please critique my sales letter to info marketers - 04-05-2006, 11:01 PM

Hello all,

Below is a letter I'm planning to send out to Internet marketers. Please let me know what works (if anything) and what doesn't.

Thanks,

James

Attention Internet Marketers and Entrepreneurs....

Create And Sell More Information Products, AND Establish Yourself As
An Expert, While Doing The Same Amount Of Work!
It's easy when you know the secret...

Dear,

You're a successful Internet Marketer, creating wonderful ebooks, articles, newsletters, and other
products to sell on the Internet. You've made a lot of money too. But wouldn't you like to make
even more?

Sure. We all would. But there is one thing that puts a limit on how much money we can make.

Time.

What could you do with just a few more hours a day? Write another ebook? Build another high-
paying mini site? Or maybe just spend time with your family. After all, you got into this so you
could work less, not more.

So what can you do? You can't make more Time, and you certainly can't buy more.

Can you?

You can if you buy someone else's.

Just give me a call. I'm James Palmer, and I am a freelance business and marketing writer ready
to help you make your big dreams even bigger. I can write your keyword-rich articles, profitable
ebooks and the sales letters to push them with, so you can spend your valuable time doing
whatever you want.

Imagine being able to spend more time with friends and loved ones, while your next promotion
practically writes itself!

Imagine going to your child's school play while that new mini site puts itself online!

Imagine raking in even more profits than before, without doing anything extra to make it happen!

Sure, you could hire some newbie on elance or Guru.com to write articles and ebooks for you for
$5 or $10 bucks a pop, but do you really get good content for that price? Be honest. And what
about sales letters? Would you trust something that important to someone on elance? I don't
think so.

So instead of rewriting some greenhorn's copy–or doing all the work yourself and maybe missing
out on the more important things in life--you can get someone who has written everything from
press releases and media kits to published books, articles, web copy, and sales letters for a variety
of clients including:

✔ Agito Consulting
✔ Imedia Group
✔ The Write Ideas
✔ Farmhouse Graphics LLC
✔ Tillman Allen Greer LLC
✔ And many more!

Here's what a couple of my very satisfied (and repeat) clients had to say about my services:

"Good writers are a dime a dozen, but it is rare to find a good writer who also understands the
psychology of sales and marketing. James is a terrific copywriter with a knack for finding the
emotional angle and translating it into words that resonate with the target market. On top of
that, he is dependable and consistently delivers high-quality, well-thought-out work."
Stacy Karacostas
Chief Creative Officer
The Write Ideas

"What a great job you did with our newsletter! Not only was it completed on time, but it was
exactly what I wanted. I can't wait until you start working on some more projects."
Brian Hilliard
Chief Executive Officer
Agito Consulting

I know there are a lot of so-called experts out there, people who have read a couple of
copywriting books and now call themselves copywriters, but I am not one of those guys. Sure,
I've read the books, but I've also practiced what I've learned from Bob Bly, Dan Kennedy,
Clayton Makepeace and others to help other businesspeople achieve success. And now I want to
do the same for you.

Here's what you'll get working with me:

✔ Copy done right the first time, in your voice.
✔ Fast, friendly service. I'm a prince to work with, and I don't miss deadlines.
✔ My personal guarantee: if for any reason the copy isn't exactly what you wanted, I'll
rewrite it until it is. You only pay when the job is completed to your satisfaction. That
includes sales letters that aren't sucking in cash like a black hole on steroids.
So give me a call today at (67 617-2383 or send me an email at james@jamesmpalmer.com,
and we'll talk about your project's purpose, audience, USP, and all the other particulars. Then I'll
get started right away on whatever you need.

I look forward to helping you with your next moneymaking project.

Sincerely,

James Palmer

P.S. I'm likely to get very busy very quickly, so call or email me ASAP!

P.P.S. Ask me how you can book me for weeks or months in advance and "steal" me away
from your competition.

You know the market is so desperate if you sent enough of these letters out you might actually pick up a few clients.

It's really not a good letter though.

The headline needs to be far more specific about the unique benefit you'll provide your prospects.

Also you need to talk your prospects language.

In this field they'll hire you if they think you know more than they do in key areas...

Or at the very least if they think you know enough to produce great copy and products.

You have nearly 100% chance of being hired if you come up with a great product idea that adds value to the products they already offer and makes a great back end offer to their list.

Then they'll hire you to ghost-write the product and the sales letter.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh

Hi James!

Overall, I think the copy isn't really that bad and I do like your "pleasant" and overall "tone" in your "voice" - IOW, you sound trustworthy!

The thing that kind of put me off was this:

Quote:

Be honest.

And what about sales letters? Would you trust something that important to someone on elance? I don't
think so.
There is a good chance that your reader doesn't know they can hire folks on guru.com and what you are doing is telling them (whether intentional or not) that they can get similar services elsewhere for a heck of a lot cheaper.

Granted, you do explain that the quality is shoddy for these cheap prices, but still...

You shouldn't give them the opportunity to shop around.

Heck, you might as well put the link to Guru.com right there on your sales letter so it'll make it that much easier for them!

Believe it or not, there actually are some good writers at guru.com that low-ball their original prices to get folks in the door. Once they get a customer, it means more business for them on the backend for future work.

Do you really want to give away your business this way - I know I don't.

Like I said, I like your style -- just do something with this particular section.

I would give you more in way of critique, but only will in pieces so not to confuse you.

1) i hate the 3 . , never let the reader fill the gaps.
2) it is not too pompoos to pretend that you are the one to know the secret, because if no one know it , you are the one to know it, and if there is some ele who know it it will be not a secret.

3) easy, oh god; nothing is easy in this damn world (so please never insult the intelligence of your readers).

4) is this the finality to establish yourself as an expert?

Thanks for giving it a look everyone. And thanks primoquest, for your encouraging comments. With the elance and guru mention, I was merely trying to cover everything these people might think about while reading my letter, but I see your point. I think I can lose that section.

Thanks again,

James
