Default I hate CopyWriters - 01-24-2006, 02:50 AM

Hi,
I paid big bucks to a copywriter to write me a copy, but it does not convert as well as I want. The copywriter is telling me to make changes and then wait for at least 200 sales to test each change - all this testing is costing me more and more advertising bucks !

Are my conversion expectations too high, or has the copywriter done a bad job ?

I will be grateful of you could have a look at http://surveyZing.com and share your ideas about how it can be improved ...

I know there are many good copywriters on this board,

I love copywriters that can help me make sales

Thanks,
Angel.

You should be split testing at all times. For one.

Second....the copy is good. But, true it won't convert well. The pitch is a very common one and your page is well done, but has nothing unique about it.

It needs a fresh "Hook" to make it work. Can't think of one myself...... [/b]

Chuck's right

You've chosen to sell to a very competitive market without any significant competitive advantage. If anything, your offer is somewhat weaker than others I've seen.

The copywriter did a decent job, with some exceptions, but the failure of this copy is mostly in the offer.

This is a job for short copy. "Everybody" knows about filling out surveys.

Reading through it again, I think I found an angle, Angel.

The Amazing Software that allow you to ZIP through pages and pages of forms with just a keystroke or two. Imagine filling out one survey and the software remembers every answer so you can SPEED through the next one at a dizzing pace! I would try to get in all the cool aspects of your software "Above the fold". And not much more needs to be said other than your new offer, with lots of relevant bonuses - Master lists, efficiency reports, advanced search methods, business outlines....whatever.

I agree with Chuck and Erik. Get down to business quicker.

I like to tell stories, and your story is ok, but you gotta hit 'em between the eyes first.

The letter isn't bad, maybe a little pedestrian. Move your "survey earnings" box, or something like it close to the top and use it to educate your prospects with some compelling facts that they don't already know.

Good Luck

Default Stop it - 01-24-2006, 11:59 AM

Oh. and whatever your spending money on.....stop it.

If your spending mor than .05 per click then stop and get it
down below that. Yes it takes work, but if 200 visitors is breaking your
bank, then find cheaper ways to get them rounded up.

Default About your sales page... - 01-24-2006, 04:57 PM

Hi Angel,
When it comes to spending top-dollar and you're not getting the response, it can be frustrating as h*ll! . . I've been there myself.

I spent 7 years of my life building websites and selling them on eBay to pay my bills. After noticing that the sites I sold were totally gone from the web within six months, I contacted my previous buyers to find out what happened.

They had no problem telling me that the adcopy I wrote on their sites just plain... "sucked"!

Knowing that my customers got the muddy side of the stick, angered me so much that I instantly stopped creating websites and started focussing on the marketing and copywriting side of this business.

My suggestion to you is this... whether you want to write your own copy or not, it is essential that you learn "everything" you can about copywriting.

You maynot become an expert, but you'll know whether the copywriter you are hiring knows his or her "stuff"!

What I have done in the past is latch on to the best copywriters known to mankind and sucked up "every" bit of information that they were willing to make known to the public.

I am still learning and testing each and every day.

... and as skywriteing had already mentioned, testing is an absolute essentiality when it comes to seeing what works and what doesn't.

Michel Fortin will be the first to tell you that without extensive testing, he wouldn't be where he is today!

Coming here to Michel's site is a great start as there are some awesome folks that can lend you a hand, but you may want to also check into other ways of marketing your sales letter other than "paying" for clicks through Google (or what ever way you might be doing this).

Jimmy D Brown has a great membership site that can probably do you some good in way of how to get traffic to your site without paying a whole lot of money for it.

Go to my profile or sig file and visit my "unfinished" site, then click over to the "pre-launch" sign-up/contact page and sign up.

If you do this right now I will not only will give you a free membership after the launch of this site, but you'll find a link to a video created by Jimmy D Brown. This guy really knows what he's talking about when it comes to getting traffic to your website.

If you can wait until after the launch of my site, I might be free to give you one-on-one help with your copy, but right now I've been a bit overwelmed with work.

What ever you choose to do, keep your head held high, don't get discouraged, don't ever give up...

...and yeah, stop paying for something that is not working for you.

I'm betting you could start the copy here..

There Are Hundreds Of Survey Companies
That Want your Opinion Right Now!

and it would do better.

Often copy "picks up" after a couple of pages. One of the first places to look when copy seems to drag is how much of the beginning to cut out.

Hi friends,
Thanks for your ideas, it really helps to know that most of you feel that the copy is good, The cost per click in the surveys industry is well over 65 cents per click, yes there is lot of competition but I figured a top copy would make all the difference! My expectation was a conversion of over 3% but this copy is averaging about 2.4%.

I am not sure if this is a job for a short copy, but today I am going to follow the suggestion of Shaune Clarke - and I am going to reduce the copy size to more than half. For those who want to see the original copy, its here -> http://surveyZing.com/indexold.php

I will post here tomorrow about how the short copy as suggested by Shaune has affected the conversion ratio.

Meanwhile, I would love to hear more ideas and suggestions,
I am not going to give up,

Thanks,
Angel.

Default Just a small tip here. - 01-25-2006, 05:21 AM

Angel,
You might consider narrowing your text down to 65-75 words per line.

I think I counted 90-100 words on your longest lines.

I don't know about most other folks, but my eyeball muscles are very tight and don't move that far (I get tired of turning my head to read)

You can do this simply by creating a "sized" table and throwing your "masterpiece" inside it.

Whether you put a border around it is up to you, but new tests are showing that you may get better results without a border. Of course, this should be tested by you after the page is done.

One more thing -- The headline... what can I say... I would work on it.

The color doesn't grab me and neither does the text.

Brian Keith Voiles has earned millions with his copywriting and he is known to write over 200 at a time until he got it down to the precision of a "fine-tuned" Rolex watch!

My advice to anyone wanting to have their perverbial Rolex cleaned and polished:

1. Learn from the masters
2. Become a sponge
3. Drop all characteristics of your ego (in other words, don't brush off good advice, because you get offended by the masters comments)
4. Take ACTION on what you've learned.
