At Harlan's suggestion I called AWAI. They don't sell his program and wouldn't confirm whether or not it still exists and said to look on Furey's website. I did but it's not there. I emailed him but haven't heard back yet.

AWAI also said there aren't DVDs of his 2007 AWAI email copywriting seminar. They did their best to try to upsell some other program to me but I declined.

By the way, I never thought I'd see the day where I call AWAI because Harlan told me to.

Anita, sorry about that, I didn't even read the entire thread or I would've seen you asked. My bad.

I e-mailed Matt also. If I hear back I'll let you know what he says!

GREAT list.

I'd add The AdWeek Copywriting Handbook by Joe Sugarman (basically the guts of a $5,000 a head seminar he used to give on copywriting and a very, very good guide).

And getting into the books you really should read if you want to be a good copywriter:
How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie and
Influence The Psychology Of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini.

The courses Harlan already mentioned are excellent.

The seminars from Gary Halbert are in a class of their own.

The copywriting seminar from Dan Kennedy is packed full of real gems.

Also it wouldn't hurt you to go read every one of Gary Halbert's newsletters at The Gary Halbert Letter and especially these 2 if you want to learn how to write a sales letter...
The Gary Halbert Letter
The Gary Halbert Letter

And if you're not reading Clayton Makepeace's stuff there can't be a drop of copywriting blood in you...
Archives | The Total Package

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh

The Adweek book by Sugarman looked to be the same as Advertising Secrets. I didn't see any difference.

Did I miss something?

Peace.

Harlan

PS. For all of those interested in Matt's course. Let me see what I can do. I just emailed Matt.

I have to tell you, Matt usually does not sell his products to the public. If he makes an exception here, I would jump on it.

There's nothing that will put more cash in your product than good emails.

Hope you gave my love to Katie.

And regards from Megaman.

I was at the Eben Pagan seminar and his people told me they LOVED the Megaman video.

I heard a rumor he's going to return soon with another video.

Hmmmm.

From page 9 of The Adweek Copywriter's Handbook:
This handbook is based on a book I wrote in 1998 called Advertising Secrets of the Written Word. The book consisted of the lessons I had taught at exclusive seminars I conducted beginning in 1977.

My challenge was to take the first book, revise it to make it current, and add many of the copywriting techniques to be considered when you write for the Internet, direct mail, public relations releases, and other copywriting tasks. What I discovered in the process is that all the principles remained the same regardless of the changes in the way we communicate that have occurred since I wrote it.

Nice list so far folks.

I'll add one more book that I frequently recommend:

On the Art of Writing Copy by Herschell Gordon Lewis

Halbert hated HGL with a passion and made it a point to rip him regularly but personally I found HGL's book to be quite good.

In terms of copywriting courses, one of my favorites is Carl Galletti's Copywriting Protege Program. Got my copy years ago through Ebay at a great price.

Hi! I noticed that no one mentioned Bob Bly's The Copywriter's Handbook. When I was starting out I found it very helpful.

Great list. I'll add one.

How to Make Your Advertising Make Money

This got me interested in advertising back in the 80's because he explained why it worked.

If I had a dime for every retail store that "got it" I'd owe $6,139,420.40.
