Default Legal Disclaimers - 05-16-2008, 11:27 AM

Most information products contain a "Legal Disclosure" section at the beginning, where the writer basically puts all responsibliity on the reader, and takes all blame off of him/herself.

Is there a standard language that people use for this... or are people just writing down what sounds appropriate?

Any thoughts?

Jim,

I'd be careful about trying to write up anything yourself. The law requires precision wording and you could open yourself to liability if it's incorrect.

A few years ago, I got a program called AutoWebLaw, which is written by a lawyer and allows you to customize it for services and information products. I use it on my site for the Privacy Policy and Terms Of Use. I'm not trying to sell you the program, but if you don't want to spend big money for a lawyer, it's a reasonable alternative.

Hope this helps.

Search for "legal documents" and hundreds of sites come up that charge a few pound for a customisable legal document
