What the hell is "smth?"
Easy. Easy. You are scaring me.

"Smth" is short for "something". I thought it was obvious.
My prospect wants references.
And I cannot provide any. Not yet. Even though I am already
working on a few small projects.
I am sure a lot of people find themselves in a similar situation.
That's why I posted this question.
Is there a way around it? I know I will have to figure it out myself.
Everyone seems to be confused...
Well...thanks for the smilies.
Angie

Re. Angie's comment "I am a more sarcastic and sophisticated version of Mr. Subtle:"

I agree with half of Angie's statement. She may well be more sarcastic than Mr. Subtle. But more sophisticated?

Where the heck do I get these?? And how?
Your potential client doesn't want "something." They want reassurance that they're hiring the right person for the job. If you can't provide that in the form of references, find another way. References are just a means to an end for them.

All their request means is that you haven't sufficiently handled all their objections yet.

Lance

Nope! You're wrong. You are wrong!
Just wanted to let everyone know that after
our extensive phone discussion, the prospect was so
impressed with my presentation, ideas and suggestions,
that he forgot about testimonials. He wants a long-term
professional relationship. And he might even refer me to others!

PS: Nebuloxx will be wallowing in disappointment for the rest
of the day. Now that I am on the roll, how is he going
to utilize his bullying skills?

I guess you bit the bullet and handled their hidden objections. Even without using references. And you said I was wrong.

That would be my (unrequested and unsolicited) opinion on it, too, Lance.

I make the small claim that what people want, when confronted with something new, is re-assurance, comfort. Yeah, they may want other things, like excitement, etc. But MOST of the time...they want the re-assurance and sense of security that "everything will turn out all right." Doesn't matter if it's with your clients or with the clients' prospects.
