Default Your Favourite Headline - 05-08-2008, 07:30 AM

I may have already have asked this in the distant past.

But it's always good to get a regular adrenalin shot...

Sooooo - what is your favourite headline of all time?

By the way it could also include a subhead and deck copy...

The one legged golfer one is up there for sure. Halbert's for Tova Borgnine's perfume was pretty darn good as well. There are plenty more, but you asked for 1 and I've already given 2.

Regards,
Lance

Attention Porkers!

From a Gary Halbert ad that completely bombed. But I love the headline because he's one of the few people with the cojones to run an ad like that.

Moreover, I love imagining the shock on the faces of fatties as they see the headline and go into convulsions at the mere thought that them being fat could possibly be their own fault...

There's nothing so funny as an outraged fatty!

One of my favorites is...

"Read This Or Die"

for a health promo. A similar headline for a financial mailer was "Read This Or Die Broke."

If I remember correctly, I think they were both for Agora publications. And I seem to remember I heard Jim Rutz' name attached to them.

Thanks so much everyone - please keep them rolling in ...

And James you're right "Read This Or Die" was by the legendary Jim Rutz.

For me it's one of the top 5 greatest headlines ever written.

But would we be able to get away with it today?

I get the feeling 1,097 regulatory bodies would pounce on it.

On a side note - Rutz "broke" one of the so called "rules" in his copy - he used lots of humour

(but it was immaculately done - with no offence to anyone - it just made people even more willing to read all the copy).

And what are rules for?

Yea - you've guessed...
