Default Newbie Question: Buying Subscribers - 03-23-2008, 04:26 PM

Hello Everyone,

I have recently been baffled by people talking about buying subscribers. It appears you set up an account and they send you a number of subscribers for a certain amount of money. You then send out your newsletter promoting your product and website and turn you subscribers into clients.

I have read a few explanations of how they get these subscribers and having marketed my business online for the last 6 years I am a little dubious about jumping into this possible source of income.

Are they using spam techniques, pop ups/unders or any other dubious methods? I do not want my product, name or URL's associated with any sort of spam that could prevent white listing of my email servers or make me trigger any web browsing filters.

I have seen about 4 websites offering this service now, all offer a slightly different explanation.

What I really need is a newbie guide if anyone has a link I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks in advance

No one know? Maybe a link to one of the services will help

Opt-in list-builder adds subscribers and leads to your mailing list

I was told this was a good service and I have looked at other offering similar deals and they all seem a bit vague about how it works and they offer differing explanation.

Anyone shed some light?

The one you just linked to is run by GetResponse, which is a well know mailing list company similar to Aweber.

They look like they're on the up and up, but why not get in touch with them and ask them the hard hitting questions?

If it's GetResponse, it is almost certainly coregistration. I know they offer it. It's a great way to get leads if you're going to buy them.

Hi Kyle,

I asked aweber if the sold subscribers and they said no, and they wouldn't let people use bought lists with their service.

so one of those free services you sign up for with loads of tick boxes underneath that say "send me info on...".

If its this then it seems fairly legitimate. Can anyone offer me any advice before I go and throw some money at this?

Co-registration is a great way to build your list. Approximately 40% of my new subscribers come through co-reg. I use coregcomplete.com (I have my name on a testimonial on the homepage, but have no affiliation with the company.)

The trick is to find co-reg partners with big lists who have an audience that closely matches your own. Done right, co-reg is totally legitimate and very powerful. It's amazing that more people don't use it.

Best wishes,

Nick

I would never recommend using co-reg's to build a list. It produces very low quality opt-ins and lots of potential spam requests. I would rather have a list of 1,000 targeted normal opt-ins than 100,000 co-reg's.

Just to give you the other side of the coin.

I have looked at GetResponse leads and would consider buying them. The downside I heard was that it can take a long time to fill the order, but a lot of that depends on the quality of your ad.

Over on the Warrior Forum, they're saying a lot of good things about the leads. I'm surprised Paul thinks they're 100X worse than a "regular" optin lead.
