Default Ted Nicholas E-mail - 01-25-2008, 11:52 AM

Was wondering how many of you got this sequence of e-mails from Ted Nicholas.

1) Got one on Thursday announcing the availability of his new book.

2) Got one Friday morning w/ the headline "Thank You For Your Purchase," thanking me for buying the book (which I hadn't bought) and telling me it would be shipped soon.

3) Got one 45 minutes later saying "Please disregard last e-mail." From the Web master, telling me that they had mistakenly sent me e-mail #2.

I'm guessing that e-mail #2 wasn't a mistake... and if so, this strikes me as a bit "shady."

Any thoughts?

I don't think there is anything "shady" about it. My guess is that his coder messed something up between the order page and autoresponder.

I received the same set of emails and was pleasantly surprised. You probably would have been too... if you would read the "Thank You" email.

I saw that this morning, too. I actually jumped on here to see if anyone else had posted about it.

And Subtle... I think I know what you're talking about.

That was certainly my gut reaction as well. My only problem was if this was an intentional "mistake." If it was an honest mistake... no harm, no foul.

I'm certainly willing to give Ted Nicholas the benefit of the doubt.

I think it was an honest mistake too.

But it's amazing how many "Oops my mistake" emails I'm now getting from marketers. It seems like every day some marketer is screwing up an email or a product or an offer. Either marketers are incredibly sloppy about things or they are using the "Oops" emails as a gimmick. Gee, they wouldn't do that would they-- ahem.

I got the email too.

And the link to the free PDF for 'buying' the book. But in the meantime I went to the gym. So I get back a few hours later, click the link, and...

Error 404 This page can not be displayed

ARSE!!!

I can only guess at how many people *DID* get the PDF though. It did seem like a genuine mistake, for the simple reason that the 'apology' email did NOT include a pitch to buy the product. Most of the half-arsed "I really goofed this one up" emails I get are

1) within 30 minutes of the first email being sent, and

2) are a thinly veiled excuse to pitch the product again

Usually it's pathetically obvious, this one wasn't.

Yeah, I got the series too and while I don't think there's anything shady about it, I was a little surprised at the look of the sales letter.

His main website looks really sharp, but what's with the yellow star header on the sales letter?

Subtle's showing a lot of restraint not having commented on that yet!

What's with the pivot text? Is that the latest in Web 2.5? Or are we back to banner animation circa 1995?

Aww crap - now it's getting shady!

Wouldn't you know it, the original deadline of "12:00 midnight EST January 26th" has been extended due to "technical difficulties!"

Quote:
Incredibly our service decided to do system
maintenance - without warning - on the very day -
today - of our book launch! They were late getting
out our broadcast. Therefore, our customers had no
order link.

To top it off, our shopping cart has
experienced problems accepting credit cards!
As a longtime user of the same company he's using to send his email broacasts I just don't buy that excuse, and giving them a bad rap so they can sell a few more books - that just plain sucks.

Are all internet marketers working from the same shady playbook these days?
