Default Getting through the rags part of the story. - 03-06-2005, 12:10 AM

Hello all,

i have a probelm right now .. i am not ready to start my own info business nor can i pass myself off as a copywriter. i have been trying to find a way to get a list of local info marketers . In a so far fruitless effort to get a job with them. the problem is the avenues i have tried arn't paying off.

Would anyone know the easiest way for me to get a shortlist of info marketers in a local area without paying a lot of money to a list broker to rent one. i have tried printshops .. but the managers kinda look at me funny .

Any methods i can think of require money i don't have right now . i am at the rags part of the storyline . the broke out of work , $15,000 in debt, living in my parents basment, no suit that will fit, driveing a 10 year old car with a cracked windshield. no marketable skills sept what i know about marketing info products. etc..

This part of the story sucks (even without the Wife threatening to leave me cause i can't feed the kids part)

right now the best first step i can see is getting into someone esle's information business. and work my arse off to help expand it while i get some experience . only thing standing in the way is a list. or lack of one.

thanks for your ideas .

Ken.

P.S. hopefully this is easier to write about when i am at the riches point. this cliche rag part is blah

Ken,

The question I would ask is whether info marketers typically have employees. Most of the people I know of don't seem to have employees, just associates e.g. VAs etc.

I would also ask whether you need to be local to the people you want to work for? What skills or services can you provide and for what types of companies?

I don't know whether there are any lists of info marketers, but I would have thought the first place to research would be on the internet.

In essence, what I'm suggesting you do is question your assumptions about how to get into this business and who you might work for and under what terms and conditions. Would it be possible to get a "day job" (which will give you some breathing room) whilst you continue to hone your skills and research the market?

Jane

I would think that your easiest way to get in touch with info marketers would be to talk to all your local printing companies, media duplication companies, office supply companies... basically anyone who the information marketers would buy from.

Try print on demand companies, copyshops, networking groups, speaking organizations etc.

Try one - test to see how well it works - then try another.

Keep at it - persistence pays.

Troy

PS - try your local web designers and hosting companies as well

Thanks, Troy D White

Where are you located? What is "local" for you?
