Default Pop-Up Advice - 12-30-2007, 10:07 AM

Hi All,
I new but learning a ton here!
I have a question about my opt-in list.
Currently I have a opt-in form to my mailing list in my body copy.
I've read some opinions that having an opt-in allows people to take that action as opposed to making a purchase. I can see that logic where people would want to check out the free eBook I offer instead of placing an order. Obviously, I much prefer the order as opposed to hoping my subsequent emails get through spam filters, get read, get clicked, etc.
I'm considering getting rid of that opt in form in the body copy and instead using an exit pop up to capture the people that I can possible sell later but aren't going to purchase immediately.
Of course I'll monitor the results and see what works, but I wanted to get some thoughts on the logic and if anyone has any experience if taking opt-in action detracts from taking the order action.

Thanks All.

I would definetally go with an exit popup window. Let the visitor read your copy and learn about your product and its benifits and make the decision to buy. If the visitor does not then hit them with the popup and suck them into a list so you can keep feeding them useful info and pitching your product.

Slippy1, having your opt-in form in the body copy does distract the buyer to some extent. And some people have certainly obtained better results when they placed their opt-in form in the exit pop-up.

But like with everything else, you need to test both of these methods and stick with the one you find is best for you.

And whether placing your opt-in form within the body copy is a diversion or not also depends on the position where you choose to position it within your copy.

Hope this helps,
Dean.

Not to mention that people who opt in should not be considered non sales. They are simply prospects that normally would not buy but still have a good chance to. Getting them on your list can be more powerful than just having them on your sales page.

Sales page = 1 chance to make the sale.

Opt-in = several chances to make the sale.

Just how I think of it.
