I posted my reply on the WF, but this is such a good visual ad, I thought it would be worth repeating here:
Good one! I see it as "looking under the hood" where Fedex doesn't want you to look.
In other words, when behemoth Fedex needs help, they turn to quick and nimble UPS!
Especially when you read the title...
"Fedex: UPS Inside"
Cheers,
John
P.S. The perspective of UPS calling Fedex to bail them out is a valid one too! The point here, is that it can be looked at either way, favorable to either company. It's only when you add the sales copy to nail the theme and convey the message you're trying to deliver...THAT's when all bets are off and it becomes truly apparent.
Is this some sort of guerrilla marketing campaign? its really good.

3M... great idea. Unlike most here, I'm not down with the FedEx ad. I think the lack of copy actually hurts it. The visual message, while a gorgeous photoshop deal, wasn't clear.
Certainly not a great idea executed perfectly.
What is the ad saying?
Fedex... We have a little bit of UPS in us.
Fedex... Our trucks are bigger.
Fedex... Our competition even use us!
Or could the same ad actually be saying...
UPS... We care so much about our customers we'll even go to the competition for help making sure your delivery is on time.
UPS... Hiding inside every Fedex truck is UPS...
UPS... We used to deliver our new trucks by railroad, but Fedex is just as slow, so we take them.
UPS... We like to sometimes throw a bone to the competition... We'll let them deliver our new trucks... so we can deliver your packages.
UPS... Fedex is like a 1970's Ford LTD. Big... unruly and boatlike. UPS... we're like toyota... small... nimble... quick.
Or... what about this?
With UPS, you get 2 shipping companies in 1! (get it? 2 trucks inside the 1 truck)
Okay, none of those messages is 100% perfect... None hits the nail on the head. And arguably the ad does appear to favor Fedex. The UPS messages are a bit of a stretch.
But either way, it just proves my point that the ad... sans copy... just isn't clear enough. It's way cool... and like I said... a great photoshop job... but IMO a horrible ad.
I think it actually would have been better if Fedex had a ups truck and a DHL truck inside it, and had copy that said something like...
"Fedex... It's like getting both those other guys... combined!"
