Default Ideabloc.com giving away 25% of its company to copywriters - 09-28-2007, 06:17 PM

Hey Guys,
I just posted this on warriorforum.com but I thought some of you might be interested in it too.

Ideabloc.com is giving away 25% of their company to programmers, designers and copywriters.

I just talked to a friend who knows the guys doing it and he thinks they have an awesome idea, but couldn't tell me about it.

check it out: ideabloc :: build the next big thing

Since "the company" just started today, I'm going to take a wild guess that "they" are going to be paying talent with stock that has NO value.

Last time I checked 25% of nuthin' was still nuthin'. Hey Angie... HEADS UP! Now you can get "paid" stock for your writing.

By the way, very nice landing page. I'm partial to Courier and just love 3D effects.

Sounds good -- initially.

Being a 20+ year veteran of Silicon Valley, I do have to wonder how much other companies have given to the same people.

My advice, if you join and it hits big and you stand to cash in -- consult a tax person before any exercise of any option. Consult tax people early and often and don't wait until April 15th. You will get screwed if you do.

A friend of mine ended up having to pay taxes on the difference between the price of her options and the price of the stock the day she exercised her options. Never mind that the stock, itself, went down quite a bit after that.

Oh well, I entered my name and email. I figured there was no harm in finding out more information.

Here's the message I got after I clicked submit:

Congratulations! You're entry was received successfully.
The blatant spelling mistake immediately strikes me as unprofessional... and definitely makes me suspicious that this thing may be a scam.

Whatever it is, it got us paying attention and taking its core message (this is going to be another 'youtube') seriously enough to consider it - without any proof.

Not bad...

Interesting ... they didn't even lock-in the domain for more than a year. Now, I wonder why not ...?

These people actually visited Elance and posted a 'project' to announce this. That's how I got wind of it. I entered my info too - what the heck?
