Default Guarantee Question - 09-25-2007, 09:44 AM

Hey folks,

I would love to get your opinion on the following. My competitor and I are selling the same commodity item. His price is lower than my price and he is also offering a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the product. I too offered a guarantee but the guarantee is that the item is 100% authentic. The problem is that this item is a collector's edition that is being bootlegged and being offered at various sites at ridiculous prices. I was considering to, state that the item is 100% authentic or double your money back. What do you guys think? Any suggestions and or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rza

You HAVE TO give the buyer a chance to recover their money if they have buyer's remorse. If you don't do that, the competition who does offer this money back opportunity, will trounce you.

The truth is this... you will get returns. But if it's a good product, your returns should be manageable and low.

If someone doesn't offer me a money back guarantee, I simply will not buy from them. This is of course when speaking about products, no services.

Every product on clickbank offers a 56 day money back guarantee... no questions asked. You should too.

Offer a 60 day no questions asked satisfaction guarantee. If you want, add in the double your money back authentication guarantee.

Other things besides a guarantee that could boost your sales...offer a payment plan, offer a premium/bonus, etc. Also, what's your lifetime customer value? If it's high enough, you can lower your price on this item and cripple your competitor.

Also, is there a unique story to your product? Perhaps a story about your product source, previous owners, etc. Something to decommoditize it.

Regards,
Lance

Only if you keep it off clickbank. Clickbank is firm on the 56 days... no more, no less.

Thanks guys for the response, you gave me some good ideas. The item in question is a DVD collector Box set. I was thinking of following Amazon.com return policy on DVDs.

Vin,

Don't call it 56 days, for pete's sake. It's 8 weeks.

Specificity... it's both and I call it both, almost every time.

"Try it for 8 full weeks, and if you don't..."

then...

"... that's right you have a full 56 days..."

or...

"... if after 55 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes, you don't..."

Or that's 4,838,400 seconds -- and put a countdown timer on your page.
