No...I didn't write it. Its a bulletin from Ari Galper.
He's a top notch guy/marketer.

Thanks Sky!

I read the letter and liked it. Even though my background is from a slightly different kind of printer (commercial offset) the "pains" are the same.

The layout was fine, but I could see a number of tweaks worth testing.

Different audience and offer but similar issues.

This morning I was listening to the interview about the letter while i was cleaning up my office. Foolish me assumed that this guy sent out 1000 (plus) letters. Turns out he only sent 20!

You don't get that kind of conversion with a "cold" mailing. You really scrub your list and focus on the ones you can help the most.

I thinks that's really a Dan Kennedy concept of not wasting time with time wasters and spending quality effort for quality people.

The sample size is too small to make any valid claims on response rates. I've sent letters that have returned a 100% response rate. Does it matter the letter I sent was to only one person (and I got the response I seeked)? You bet it does.

How do you "scrub" a cold list? This guy probably bought a list of screen printers with selects to target those with sales between $100,000 - $1,000,000. You can't dertmine who is a "time waster" on a cold list.

Even though I like the letter, I found the opening line amusing. He starts the letter...

"You've received this personal package..."

Yet, there isn't any personalization anywhere in the 4 pages. Considering he only sent out 20 letters, it would have been easy to have someone insert the prospect's name manually a few times throughout the letter. Then he might have been able to claim a 45% or 50% response rate.
