Default public domain subjects - 08-18-2007, 12:59 PM

We all know the success of "The Secret." It was based on a book by Wallace Wattles back in the early 1900's.

Are there public domain topics or subjects that you think prospects would purchase in 2007 if presented in book form? I've had discussions with people who said no one would be interested in books written in the early 1900's for example.

One of my clients publishes public domain books from the 19th Century for a particular niche. Yes...there are demands for some books from that era.

Where human nature is involved, some of the advice transcends time (particularly religions, philosophy, hobbies, and self-improvement stuff).

Big issue are those books that contain inappropriate language. For example, I found a particular Texas history book that contained interesting info...but it was riddled with derogatory terms about Native Americans, Mexicans, etc. Typical for that era but one would get tarred and feathered re-publishing it as-is today. Would need a complete re-write to make it acceptable.

Jane Austen wannabes will also bore you within 1-2 pages regardless of substance.

Right now, I'm sitting on two public domain books to republish when I get the time. Both are in niche markets. They'll never be bestsellers but they'll produce steady cash flow.

Regards,

-Mike

MIKE, you are such a tease.

is this intentional Zeigarnik?

killarney,

as a man thinketh
B&N sells, plus there are
updated Politically Correct
versions available.

And, there are a ton of GREAT
books that, as Mike referenced
Human Nature, can be made
contemporary easily because
Human Nature really doesn't change.

The trick is enticing purchasing.

That's why we're studying copywriting,
right? To learn to entice

warmly,

Ben

Ben,

With 50-cent words like Zeigarnik, you'd make a great lawyer or stand-up philosopher.

If you invest in my public domain coaching program, I'll share all the secrets. j/k.

Actually, one book relates to gambling. The other is a foreign language book with a proven demand.

-Mike
