Default He Told Me I Will Never Be A Copywriter! - 07-27-2007, 05:27 PM

That is what he said

I was trying to get some help on the image/branding side of my business, just trying to have a solid identitiy. So I go to a pro in this field. After a bunch of questions he asked me what I wanted to do down the road, I said I LOVE copywriting and direct response. My goal is to put key people in place so I can focus on that and maybe develope a info type product for others in my industry.

This guy says to me, ""hmm,.... Let's face it, you will never become a good marketer. You need to focus on just managing your business".

The first thought I had was, did you just re-read E-Myth for the tenth time? He did not seem to notice that I am passionate about copywriting/direct response marketing. Hell, I use my company partly as a guinea pig to get me to the place I want to be at.

This guy has not seen anything I have done. He knows nothing about me. I am not good at management or good at running a business, so I try to get the best people I can to handle those areas. I love what evreyone hates in my industry, marketing.

I am not sure if this is a rant or not. I think I just found it interesting.

p.s. I told him to take a jump

Motley, you seem a little bothered by this guy. With that type of mentality, I can almost assure you the dude is one of two things, broke or unhappy.

I wouldn't base your dreams or self worth on what this clown said. I'm not saying you are, but you just have to take these comments with a grain of salt.

I agree with what Ricky said.

Just let it roll like water off a duck's back.

Hi Motley1

The guy who started KFC was told he’d
never sell his secret chicken recipe, town after town after town.

The guy who invented the light bulb… well he kept saying
he now knows another way how not to invent the light bulb.

He kept going and found hundreds of ways how not to invent
the light bulb. Until he found the right mix to make a light
bulb work.

You came across one “Pro”. So what. He’s not your boss. Toss
him out and keep on trucking, humming your tune not his.

Cheers

Jim

I agree with what Ricky said. It's stupid to prejudge others and that man, is totally narrow-minded man.

People love to give advice that makes them one up. Makes them feel good about themselves. That is until they have the same thing done to them and learn the lesson about instant karma ... whatever you give comes back to you.

To which I would have replied "And I never thought you were capable of becoming an ass. Guess it's my turn to prove you wrong!"

OK, maybe I wouldn't have said it. But my tongue would have required multiple stitches from the biting I gave it.

Lance

My high school guidance counselor told me that I wasn't college material... at the end of my senior year. Eight years later, I went back and showed her my two college degrees and made her apologize.

The world is full of negative pessimists. You can either let them beat you down...or you can use it to motivate yourself to higher levels.

Personally, I love to make naysayers eat crow.

Seize the day,

Mike
