Default Where to put List Building Boxes? - 07-25-2007, 11:19 PM

Hi there,

On a long sales copy page, where is the best place to put 2 opt-in boxes?

What shape & colour should they be?

Thanks

Michelle

Somewhere at the beginning of your sales letter...at least based on some of the many high converting letters in niches that I have been in or purchased from.

It would be something like this:

Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah headline
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah subhead

STOP!

Before you go any further, sign up for my free XXX day email course, xXXXXxxXXX
Benefit, benefit, benefit
Name box
email box

Continue with letter.

For example:
Magnetic Sponsoring
NOT AN AFFILIATE LINK

Hope this helps...

Thank you, it does, but doesn't telling them to STOP means they won't buy if they intended to buy?

My ARs aren't selling so I can only rely on site sales.

Michelle,

A page does ONE THING! A squeeze page squeezes like trying to get the last drop out of a lemon and a sales page sells like you have a gun to your head (apologies to John Carlton)

Trying to do both at once yields mediocre results for both.

Make a separate squeeze page. If you insist on ignoring this advice, use an exit popup since, if they're leaving, you didn't make the sale anyway.

I agree. Don't put focus on anything else but making the sale. When they physically close the site (instead of leaving your sales page for the order page!), it's good to have an exit window. Here, it's a good idea to give away a sample chapter.

Also, if your autoresponders aren't selling, I'd send an email to your list asking them why they won't buy - in the form of an open question or a short survey. Find out their objections and use that sales ammunition!

Thanks guys, good advice.

How do I get a popunder set up?

I've never worked w/ those b4.

LOL, do people really ask their list why they don't buy?

Hmm, what questions do I come up w/ for the survey?

Have a great night!

P.S. One more question off topic - don't run awwwaayyy

I'm with 1SC & am trying to figure out how to do split testing of different pages w/ different copy for organic listings.

I know you can do it w/ AdWords, but can you do that with organic or ads placed on other sites?

Thanks

Michelle

Just be careful if you're sending Adwords traffic to your page. Google doesn't permit popups or popunders on the landing page, but they do permit popovers (i.e. DHTML layers).

I usually put the opt-in box someway in the middle of the sales letter where I have talked about the painful problems that the prospect has enough to make him interested and excited to find a solution.

Then I offer the free mini course as a small, quick solution he can get.

Also sometimes I put this box at the very end of the sales letter, so if the prospect has decided NOT to order because of the price, he might be interested to get a free gift.

Depending on the topic and style of your sales letter, offering a free gift or sample in the middle can be effective or killing your conversion rate.

The best way is to test!

Hi Michelle,

Popunders (or overs) are tricky because many of these are blocked by the many popup blockers available today.

Scripts like Cut & Paste Pop-under window and others available on that site may be able to get around this problem, so it's best to try a few options and see what works best for you. Installation is usually as easy adding a few lines of code to your web page and tweaking the particulars to link to the opt-in form you want to use.

In addition to the free scripts available to do this, there are some paid programs like Unblockable Popup Software | Popup Creator Software | Hover Ad Software | Instant PopOVER | Hover Floating Ads that seem to be worthwhile and they usually make it really easy to customize your options and the page you want displayed when someone enters or leaves your site.

HTH,

Steve

P.S. Signup for the newsletter from instantpopover and they'll give you a 30% discount if you buy the program now. At under $50 it seems worthwhile.
