Thumbs up How Copywriting for Launches is Like a Strip Tease... - 07-19-2007, 07:42 PM

Ok here's the story..

For my trading seminar (launch-formula inspired), I decided to start publicizing it to my house list about 2 months ahead of time. No bonuses, no extras, just a low early-bird price.

And it's sold out over half the seats already. Yeah, baby! Cachingo. But wait, there's more!

Like a lady at a club (not that I've ever seen one perform in person, mind you.. ) who slowly reveals things to their eager audience, I waited until the early-bird special was gone, stacked on *huge* bonuses, and tripled the ticket rate. And I'm still selling out seats like hotcakes. Just sold 2 today.

Hmm. Ok well next time at bat I'll start with a higher price and double from there.. but I digress.

The copywriting lesson learned from this stunning success story is that if I had displayed all the bonuses on the front end, that would've taken away the mystique, the mystery. By shrouding the bonuses in mystery, alluding to them subtly in the prelaunch email sequences, but not revealing them until just 2-3 weeks before the event... I was able to crank out *huge* sales from this.

And also I owe Michel a big "thank you", because his coaching helped me improve the salesletter, as always.

I am always seeking Triggers (a la sugarman) to tip the prospects over the edge, get the fence-sitters into taking action.. so carefully designing winning seminar and product launch sequences that keep the energy level up, with what I call "spikes" throughout the prelaunch/pre-event lifecycle, is a world-class, highly lucrative approach... (vs the "please come to my seminar" begfest you see reflected in most seminar event promos.. I am so beyond that...)...

Make sense? Don't show all your stuff on the front end. Get the audience all hot and bothered, then go in for the win.

it's all good,

-k

now I'm gonna go watch 'gladiator' again.. great movie.
and then highlander... "there can be only one"
and then kill bill, unedited japanese edit version... great power...
hmm and then a 'backyardigans' ep, to relax lol.

I've got to set a stretch goal and start adding more zeroes to all my prices ... that's the real test. Start at $5K and make it a 10K event. Now *that* takes sales balls.. I'm working on it, I'm working on it..

Ken, I know some on this forum don't agree with some of the things you've said in the past, etc but I want to give it up to ya for always being so open with all of your marketing efforts. I really enjoy reading your stories and I try to pick up a nugget or two with each one, keep em' coming.

I'm on your lists and I saw how you threw in the bonuses, nice job on that and yup, it's a very effective method for sure.

It reminds me of a method we just used with our Insider's Club launch. During the buildup of the launch we announced we were giving a few memberships away and you can see the response here:

» Win a FREE Lifetime Membership to the Insiders Club! | Braids By Breslin Blog

We got 335 Comments and some awesome stories! (Mike Filsaime actually did the EXACT same thing with his launch on his blog a few weeks after our launch, was he paying attention to us? , just playin')

But anyways, the social proof created here is absolutely priceless. Not only that, it feels good to read the stories and be able to give a membership away for free.

We had a few more twists also like giving away a free IPOD NANO for the first order and a $50.00 Sally's Gift Certificate for the 2nd order and so on.

These launches can be a blast and I can see your having fun with yours for sure.

But it just goes to show you, it pays to take action and have a real relationship with your customers and list.

You just have to actually have the confidence to go out and create your own marketing creatives, take action, and make it happen. You'd be amazed what happens as you've seen already Ken, keep it up!

I'll second that. Yes Ken and Ricky your words are sucked up like a sponge (and if possible put into action) every time you guys post.

Thanks.

Cheers.

Jim
