What is the highest online conversion rate you know (or have heard of) for selling a product to a "cold" or "lukewarm" prospects?

Note: By "cold" or "lukewarm" I mean no house lists, JV deals, affiliate promotions, upsells, etc. but simply visitors arriving at a site via Google Adwords, SEO, Banner ads, ezine ads, etc.

By clicking on an ad, they have obviously shown some interest, so "lukewarm" may be a more apt term for the prospects.

And understandably, price (as well as other elements) will significantly alter conversion rates. But for a product that sells for a minimum of, say, $30 and up...

Just curious as to what anyone has heard (or personally knows) as far as the upper limits of online response.

If I recall correctly, Matt Marshall had a 12.9% response rate (to "cold" prospects) converting visitors to buyers for one of Harlan's products. Impressive. Indeed.

Anyone ever hit 20% response?

I'd be very skeptic of anyone claiming more than a 5% conversion from regular Adwords or organic search traffic.

One of my sales letters did 17% to the ETR list.

Another sales letter did just about the same to that list and it was in a totally different niche.

The price point was between 150 and 200.

Nice chunk of change.

And my old Golf site used to do 7% off Adwords alone before I had AR's built in.

Back to work.

That was based on a very small sample... fewer than 100 visitors. I believe the conversion rate dropped to 1-2% as time went on.
