Default Tell me what you think about these conversion rates - 07-14-2007, 02:18 PM

I am fairly new to the copywriting biz and I just wanted to know if these conversion rates are good.

I did a sales page and a squeeze page for a product that launched at noon this past Thursday.

Here is the conversion rates since that time.

upgrades--10.1% conversion
upsells -- 19.1% conversion

Are these decent conversion rates? I have heard on other forums that a conversion rate is not good until it's 80%, which seems a little high to me.

What is considered a good conversion in the copywriting world?

Thanks
Lucinda

Lucinda... it's hard to tell what these conversion rates are.

1. What is the traffic?
2. Upgrade from what?
3. Upsell to what?

You're giving us no information. And 80% conversion? Are you on crack? If you're selling a product and you want actual money for it, 80% is pretty much impossible unless you're selling to a very qualified group.

I suspect this post has ulterior motives...

But that said, the answer to the question reminds me of an old pilots saying. Any landing you walk away from is a good one.

In the copywriting world, any conversion rate that is profitable is a good one.

LOL! Thanks for saying it for me, Vin.

You can't get 80% on a free squeeze page giving away a $77 product.

All I was wanting to know if there is a conversion scale that measures good copy.

Sorry if I offended anyone by asking this question.

Am just looking for some good input from some of the seasoned pros out there.

If you want good input, you have to provide good data, Lucinda. Show the sites in question.

The problem is, your question displays such a lack of knowledge that we find it hard to believe you persuaded 10% of any crowd to part with any money.

Second, you're listing conversion rates to one decimal so you know enough to calculate them but not whether they are any good or not? Bull$hit!

Nope I didn't calculate them myself. These rates were given to me by the person whom I wrote the copy for.

I do not have a lack of knowledge when it comes to writing copy, I just don't understand the whole conversion rate thing.

I know that you can track clickthroughs and sales percentages when you have a website, but since I have only written copy for other people and don't have my own website as of yet I was hoping for a little more education on conversion rates.

Like I said sorry if I offended and I will go do some more research on my own to learn more about conversion rates, how to calculate them and so on.

Thanks for all the input
Lucinda

Lucinda,

I'm still hoping for some details.

Traffic source is what?

How many visitors read the sales copy? How many of those people bought? (is that the conversion you're talking about?)

How much is the product? How much is the upsell?

If these are real numbers, then on initial conversion you just may be an out-of-the-box copy genius. Based on upsells, you may not be all that good, or have a really bad upsell. (I average between 40 and 55% upsell rate on my last few letters)

Please give us details so we can answer more accurately.

For example, on some products... at some pricepoints... with certain kinds of traffic, a .50% (That's half of 1 point) conversion is good. On other products, with with very very extremely targeted readers, 10% conversion might be low.

Do you see what I'm saying? There is no one size fits all here.

If I was selling Cadillacs for $100.00 I'd probably convert in the 99-100% range.

Just for the record... I just conversed with Lucinda privately and just so you all know... it's not Lucinda pulling these numbers from thin air.

The marketer is running what looks like a $7 JV deal. I'm still not sure what the conversion numbers mean, but they are being published by the client... not by Lucinda. I've seen them... I know.

So my recommendation is for Lucinda to take these numbers and run with them. Get a testimonial and drop that sucker on your website.
