Default Too many split Questions – Many split Questions - 07-06-2007, 11:40 AM

Hi

It was interesting to read in a post here yesterday that 90% of
users of copy don’t do any type of testing of copy. Understanding,
from big guy to little guy.

Do many copywriters offer copy to be split tested or does it
become too much of a hornets nest?

(As in clients or webmaster
are inexperienced. And possibly find yourself doing all the
technical (page coding) webmaster work yourself or hiring
someone to do it so results are accurate. Or is that a good thing?)

I’ve read you can give two or three extra headlines for
client for split testing. If they know about split testing I
guess that would be fine.

So what is the phychological effect of giving away
your headlines for split testing?

Or should you be charging for them? (Perceived Value
gained ahead of Reciprocation for a little headline)

As an Upsell? (Confidence/Guaranteed Greed )

Or would the client think big time otherwise?

Thank-you.

Cheers

Jim

Hi Jim,

Some good questions there. I'll try to answer some of them for you.

It's been my experience to date that the higher your copywriting fees are, the marketing savvy your clients are. Many of them are more familiar with testing and do it b/c it is one way that they have grown their business.

Rather than an upsell, I'd suggest looking at it as a way to "guarantee" a better conversion rate for your client. If they already have a split testing script that they use, they can plug in headline A and B that you provide and let the test run. The headline that pulls better will help produce a better conversion rate for them. Ultimately, a happy client is much more likely to rehire you and make referrals.

Hope that helps,

Mike
