Default I've hit the copywriter's income ceiling! - 03-12-2007, 03:59 AM

Help guys!

I've hit the copywriter's incoming ceiling!

The maximum number of copy I do per month is 5

And I charge up to $5000 per copy which amounts to a neat $25,000 per month...

I'd like to make MORE MONEY this year without having to write MORE COPY...

Is the time ripe for me to recruit copywriters to work for me?

My concern is that in recruiting copywriters, their copy may not be as good...

What's your take on this

What about some profit-sharing with the winning promotions? Cutting better deals = more money for the same work.

Bond, you could do like many others and simply charge more. This will increase your revenue as well as cut down on the overflow of work pouring in.

Charge $6,500 - Make a bit more money ($26,000) and work less.

BTW - How do you manage to pull off five jobs in one month? You must never get any sleep!

Bond,

Just transfer one problem you can't easily solve (your capacity problem), for one that you can (attracting higher paying clients with your number one skill).

Raise your prices.

Then you'll have a marketing problem. And that you can fix.

Attract clients willing to pay more for the value you deliver.

You'll be working less and earning more.

There are any number of different ways to deal with a good problem like this one.

Obviously one way would be to hire an apprentice. I wouldn't worry about whether their copy is as good as yours. You may instead want to hire one of them as researchers, so you don't have to spend as much time on that aspect. This is sort of similar to how ad agencies operate in that copywriters often first start out as Account Planners. During this time, they can learn how to write copy.

Another way would be to collect royalties, but that has its own problems.

Attracting higher-paying clients is not a bad idea. Maybe make a point of trying to attract clients in markets that pay a little more, such as software or the health market.

You may want to think about starting your own direct response agency, so you can not only deal with a higher-paying clientele but also take on photographers and graphic designers so you can charge substantially more because of those services, and basically produce a more complete end product.

Heh. I've got a swipefile... know wad i mean

Most of my clients who use my service usually use me MORE than once... so it's like 2-3 copies all stacked up for a range of products from the same company

Ah sounds kinda old-fashion...

The days of the carpenters who had apprentices...

Hey Michel Fortin owns a copywriting biz right? Perhaps he'd like to offer some advice

You could switch to selling information products that you own using your copywriting skills.
Each one is it's own income stream and there is no limit to income on any product.
