Default Where does boardroom get their lists from? - 03-08-2007, 04:35 AM

Do you know where either Agora, Boardroom or Rodale rent their mailing lists from?

Their list universe must be huge to be mailing literally millions of direct mail pieces!

My client wants to sell a sex product to men & women but no newspaper will run any such ad if it has the word sex in the copy!

Nancy Jones couldn't help me.

I am recommending direct mail to my client.

I do not see Agora or Rodale running TV spots, infomercials or print ads except Boardroom.

I recommened that my client rent mailing lists of paid subscribers such as FHM, Maxim, Playboy, GQ , Mens Health & Mens Fitness & perhaps USA Today.

Any suggestions?

This would have been my suggestion as well, but what about advertising in these mags?

Thanks Stephen, are you aware of a media buyer for these mens magazines?

I was kind of hesitant due to knock-offs.

...but the magazines sure would get more bang for the buck if the price is right with profitable conversions.

I like to study ads that run in different magazines to see if they work.

My thinking is that if THE SAME ad has been in a magazine for 4 MONTHS, or more, then it MUST be doing good!

Pick up a copy of MAXIM and FHM. Also, believe it or not, pick up a copy of Popular Science and Popular Mechanics.

Specifically, the Max-o-derm wang cream ads, or in the case of Popsci and Popmechs, the athena pheromones ads, the matt furey conditioning ad, and the better sex video ads, and the EDEN pure heater ad.

Look at them, and see what you can learn from them BEFORE you spend ad money in these mags.

The longest running ads I have seen from last year (from magazines that I subscribe to)?

The Ebiz marketing system ad in Entreprenuer Magazine (8 months running with almost no changes. They have to be doing something right!)

Max-o-derm (Viaxx)in MAXIM, FHM, Popular Science, BLENDER... it just keeps on popping up in more and more magazines, so this company must me making a killing.(Dear Stephanie...)

I wonder who wrote that ad, and if he is one of the guys on this board...

Last time I checked Boardroom, Agora, Roadale and Weiss Research were in the SRDS and their lists were available for renting.

Thanks Mr Subtle, but do you have any idea how they select their lists?'

God I would love to know how they go about finding & selecting their lists as they are known for mailing millions !

In fact they defy Gary Halberts direct mail strategy.
