Default Tell A Friend? Or Not? - 02-24-2007, 10:02 AM

I'm targeting small businesses and was recently recommended to have a tell-a-friend link on individual pages or at least my main site.

I'll test it out to see if it detracts from conversion or brings in more visitors. Some questions, maybe someone else has experience with this:

- Is there any special wording you've found that motivates people to refer your site?
- Have you tried a contest? (My first thought is, ick. But test first, judge later)
- How do you place the tell a friend so that it doesn't distract from the copy?

Thanks.

B

I'm testing the "tell a friend" waters myself. I just picked up a new app. that looks promising http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/to...OPIC_ID=134644

There's some decent video's on that thread about setting up a TAF campaign that might be helpful.

Mike Filsaime has a pretty cool tell-a-friend "viral" script about to go on sale. I have a copy of it, and I'm going to be testing it shortly.

Just like any opt in or lead generation device, you need to give them an incentive to spread the word. And it should be something with a high perceived value.

But once they tell 3 friends, for example, the exponential part begins. Because those 3 friends tell 3 friends, who tell 3 friends, and so on (obviously not everyone will participate).

I'll let you know how it pans out for me.

EDIT: I just saw this free one linked on the Warrior Forum: :: Enough Is Enough! ::
