Default Email Marketing Servers RE: Email deliverability - 01-26-2007, 04:58 PM

Hey Guys and Gals,

I just got done reading the latest Marketing Sherpa article on email deliverability issues and getting passed all the spam blockers. You can check it out here...

MarketingSherpa > How to Improve Email Deliverability: 3 Steps Tested by Real-Life Mailer

It talks about a software program you can install on your server that detects and bypasses a wide variety of non-delivery issues for email. I checked out the web sites for the software and I'm guessing it's pretty pricey.

I'm doing some email marketing for local businesses, so this is an important issue for me. I was wondering if any of you knew of any good email list hosting companies that provide a similar service to the one mentioned in the Sherpa article, and also allow you to rent servers. I'm on a relatively tight budget at the moment, so the more affordable the better...as long as quality isn't sacrificed too much.

I'm not managing very big lists at the moment...a capacity of 50,000 emails a month would be good enough for the time being. But I'd also like room to grow. Any ideas?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section...but I figure as copywriters, especially when writing emails, this is an important thing to consider.

Thanks for your help!

Ryan

Hey Ryan,

What are you presently using to send out emails for your clients?

I'd agree that the software mentioned in that article is probably quite expensive, but considering the company mentioned had a list of a 1/2 million folks, I'm sure it was worth it for them.

For people like us managing smaller lists, I'd think the services of a company like Constant Contact, Aweber, Campaign Monitor or MailChimp would be helpful. Because their businesses depend on sending and delivering email for their many small business clients, I think they're better equipped to deal with deliverability issues that arise and they also have feedback loops with the major ISP's that can help them to pinpoint and resolve problems.

If you're looking to run your own software on your own servers though, I'd lookup Bailey on the forum here as she appears most knowledgeable when it comes to doing it yourself and I'm sure she'd love to share her thoughts!

Cheers,

Steve

For what you're doing Aweber (aweber.com) has excellent delivery rates and should be more than adequate assuming you're emailing people who've otped in to get your emails.

The cost of the Aweber service is around $20 a month. It goes up when your list gets very large but not enormously.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh
