Default Credible Reasons To Act Urgently - 01-18-2007, 05:23 PM

As you're probably aware urgency is a major factor in capturing the sale. I'm looking to build a list of credible reasons for why the customer MUST respond within 7 days.

Not reasons like:

"Stocks are low" etc.... peeps have seen these so many times...

There are many ways to create a sense of urgency. Here are two of my favorite techniques:

1. The "Why put up with it?" close:

"Why put up with outrageous overnight courier costs for even one more day?"
"Why put up with an embarrassing golf slice for even one more game?"
"Why put up with the debiliating migraine you know is coming soon?"

2. The "Due to expire" close. This works well if the deadline for the offer is so far into the future that there is no inherent urgency.

"This offer is due to expire. Please respond in the next 7 days."

Any event you can think of ...

basically, any event within the seller's life can be used...

"I'm getting married..."
"My Business Partner and I are moving on to other things..."
(may not be the best approach ... as they may wonder about ollow up support)
"I've just been informed that my costs are going up, so I'm selling out stock in hand..."

If it's some kind of event in life, it can be turned into a reason for urgency.

"We need to firm up sales to know how many to print..."

"I have a new project that I'm working on..."

"I'm only doing it this low because...(down payment on a house, new car, new baby, new wife...)"

I'm sure you can supply others...granted, the way to use urgency in each of these cases would have to be built up and consistent with "the rest of the story".

Anything that causes some kind of impending scarcity is a reason.

I wrote a patient reactivation letter that starts out:

"My wife is pregnant. If it's a girl, we are thinking of naming her xxx. If it's a boy, we haven't decided on a name. We don't care if it's a girl or boy, as long as the baby is healthy."

It then goes on to explain how he is going to hire new clinicians, and will be advertising for the first time ever to keep the clinicians busy from day one. This will mean that there will be a backlog of patients, especially as he spends more time with his family. Before he advertises, he's giving his existing patients a chance to book his time.

Attached to that letter are two killer letters that are "examples" of the proposed advertising, by yours truly. It's a great excuse to give them "reading material" without them feeling they're being sold to.

The letter itself can be the cause of scarcity. Brag on it a little and say because we're telling others the same story, we're expecting to have no openings.

I will say that false scarcity and B.S. constraints tick me off. It's basically lying and an unethical attempt at manipulation. Lately it seems to be getting more and more common. There are some marketers I used to really, really like - thought they had high ethical standards. Then they do that - ruins their image, and I opt out of whatever they're trying to do/sell/present.

Finally, someone said it. You are absolutely right Burton. IMHO, if you have to ask someone to create your scarcity for you, there is no scarcity.

I think the best thing for creating urgency is to have it already built in to whatever you are offering.

For my one-on-one basketball training, I would let potential customers (parents of basketball players) know that I only had limited time slots available. If they were interested, I offered to reserve the time for their son or daughter for a "try out" lesson. And if they wanted to continue after that, then that time slot was theirs to keep.

After a while, I was booked solid with a waiting list, so now the urgency to sign up is intensified when an opening becomes available.

Pump and dump refers to when you already own the stock then purposely spread false news/rumors so you can sell it at a higher price. I don't believe there's any maximum people to promote to.

If you refer to this at all, you're going to be lumped with the pump and dumpers yourself. Probably not what you want.

However, if you deal in recommendations on low float stock (which incidentally is needed for pump and dumps), you don't want to tell too many people, because you'll then be priced out of the stock. You don't want to move the market until all your subscribers can get in.

With just one share trade you can make or lose thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars.

Don't risk your hard-earned money for one more day without the insider secrets you need in this newsletter.
