Default Menu on home page?? - 11-08-2006, 11:04 PM

Does anyone know of any test results regarding the impact of links on a sales page? For example, on my site, the home page is effectively a sales page. However, the page also contains a small menu on the left hand side with standard links such as “about us” and “faq”.

If you would like to see my site, it’s at Ultimate Vocabulary - The Best Vocabulary Building Software

I am reluctant to remove the menu because I think it adds credibility to the site. However, I have seen many successful sites (such as trafficsecrets.com) that don’t include a menu.

Any thoughts?

Marc.

P.S. I am a beginner at this, so If you’d like to critique my site I’d be very grateful! I have put in a request in the critique section of this forum.

it breaks the flow of the sales pitch. People might go to "about us" without reading the copy, or FAQ to answer quick questions -- like "what's the price? I don't have time to read this..."

Your best bet is to include them in your copy, include links in strategic locations in your copy (I found FAQs at the very end of salesletters, after the last PS and with links to order after each question, pulled best), or to open in pop-up windows so that people don't stray from your salesletter. (And keep the copy in those pages or pop-ups as short and sweet as possible.)

Thanks Michel!!!

First, let me thank you for an awewome newsletter!

Regarding your comments, I think you have just confirmed what I have been suspecting for a while.

I am going to do something about this tomorrow (it's almost midnight here in Australia).

As a first step my plan is:

1) Remove the screenshots link altogether. There are screenshots in the copy so it's not necessary.

2) Move the FAQ section to after the last p.s. with a links to the order page after each question. Delete the FAQ link from the menu.

3) Leave the "about us" link where it is, but have it displayed in a popup window with short copy.

Any comments on this plan??

Default New copy live - 11-09-2006, 08:58 PM

Ok...

The new copy is live online at Ultimate Vocabulary - The Best Vocabulary Building Software

The only thing I am a *little* nervous about here is the copy in my FAQ at the end of the page. Hopefully I haven't made any mistakes in the actual FAQ text that will negatively affect conversions.

If anyone wants to have a look it would be apprecitated

And thanks again for your comments Michel.
