Default Mailing List Software - 10-30-2006, 02:11 PM

This may seem a simple question but I've been tearing my hair out trying to find a mailing list program in which I can automatically format text emails to 60 or 70 characters per line. None of the software I've tried will do it. The emails just come out across the whole width of the screen.

I even tried a text formatter, which did format the text nicely into my mailing program at 70 characters wide but when I sent out the email to my list, all the formatting was lost and it came out right across the screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chris,

I use TextPad (TextPad - the text editor for Windows) for email formatting. You can try the free, unlimited trial download of TextPad

You can set the line length under the Preferences, according to file type. There is an option for word wrap that forces hard line breaks when you save.

I've found that if I cut and paste my TextPad text BEFORE saving, my line breaks are not preserved. Maybe this is what's happening to you.

If you want to be sure of getting the hard breaks, save your file, then open it again to copy. Experiment.

Thanks Karl, I'll give it a try.

I use this web page.

E-mail Formatting Utility -- no downloads required

Copy your text into the page, enter the line width and BAM, just copy and paste it into your email .

It only works with plain text emails though.
