Hi everyone. I was on Clayton Makepeace's call today and he said (again) that newbie copywriters should think about getting a job with a major mailer before launching a freelance career. I think this might be good advice for me. He mentioned Weiss Research (Florida) and Agora (Maryland) as needing staff copywriters. I have a couple of questions to throw out to the board.

1.) What qualifications would a major mailer want to see in an applicant? I have a degree and some work experience, but nothing related to copywriting. I also am currently finishing the AWAI course and will have the samples from that and a couple of samples from my current job that have worked well.

2.) Are there any major mailers in Southern California? While a long distance move isn't out of the question for me, I would prefer to stay local.
