Default From "Mere Mortal" to "Snarling Serpent" - 10-24-2006, 09:16 PM

I cracked up when I read this juicy piece of sales copy mastery...

It comes from a letter at (dang, I hate to give them free traffic):
Amazing Undergound Marketing Classic Turns Mere Mortals Into Millionaires!

Quote:
Of course, the biggie for this 'Mortal To Millionaire Transformation Megapak' is the accompanying $25,000 Sales Letter that will reach for your customer's wallet like a snarling serpent!
Snarling serpent? They're kidding, right?

I noticed 2 thing :

1)one and only one reference toJoe vitale and in a testimonialof Jay Ortega (may be I am wrong).

2)all the link in the salesletter take to the order page (those witch arn't in testimonial) , if I am not wrong.

buy it or close it.

The beginner.
(Time to take some actions)

I can't understand for the life of me how anyone buys into such cheesy hype.

I guess I have some learning to do...

This letter is a funnily sad example of what happens when a second-rate writer gets ahold of a few copywriting techniques, then over-uses them incorrectly. They are using methods that can be effective, but with no real understanding of them, which basically causes it to fall flat.

It should be placed in the "What NOT to do" hall of fame...is there one here? If so, add it to the list.

Notice the first highlight... looks like someone is being careful not to get into trouble with the FTC!

In stead of saying "because if you can't make at least $100,000..."

He (or she) chose "benefit from the tactics".

"This book should be priced at $100,000 or more because if you
can't easily benefit from the tactics..., then you don't deserve
to be online in the first place!"

Hey all,

I may be a newbie, but even my first practice letter didn't reek like this one! (What, exactly, does a snarling serpent look like????)

I also loved the testimonial from Jerold Johnson.

"Hi Jo Han,
Just a quick note to let you know that I like your 'no fluff', no B.S. writing style and straight to the point tactics..."

If this sales letter is an example of Jo Hans's writing, then either Jerold doesn't know what he's taking about, or he's being paid A LOT of money for his testimonial.

On a serious note...

A movie rental store down the road from me was successfully sued by Toys R Us for copywrite infringment and forced to change their name from Movies R Us, even though the R wasn't reversed.

This letter used the terms Jedi Council and Jedi Knights, and there is no doubt that they are protected by law.

Aren't we legally obligated to seek permission when using brand specific terminology, and specify permission was granted with branding information listed within the letter?

I think I'm correct, but I'd rather look stupid and ask here than slip up and get handed a lawsuit further down the road!

Thanks!

Susann

I've seen several IM'ers... including Richie Rich Schefren... using "questionable" materials in their blogs, websites and "manefestos" recently...

Check out the last chapter Rich just published -- has a cute little picture of the Jedi himself... Mr. Lucus.

Can't believe that Rich licensed that one for use in the edoc. Hmmm...
