Post What do you think? Is it dying? Are "secret formulas" being madly overused in hype? - 07-26-2006, 01:10 PM

I have the feeling that everything copywriters accomplish online is slowly fading away... we are constantly have to change our marketing efforts - which is fine, I'm not lazy or anything... but when a customer reaches a RESPECTABLE website and sees the same guarantee some scum bag scammer "promised" - it loses its effect.

The over use of the navy blue and red backgrounds on sales letters - the over use of EVERYTHING that screams "SALES LETTER"

Over-used phrases, tactics, over-used titles, headlines, statements - I mean the word guarantee doesn't even have it's meaning anymore.

Doesn't anyone else feel this way? I mean, I remember back in the days all the letters used to look the same... yeah I'd read some and buy some, but I never gave the good ones a chance.

I never gave Corey Rudl and the ones from that era a chance... the first copywriting to really "break" me was Dan Lok - DAMN I love his style.

I would chop my arms and legs off to write like him... he practically writes a check to himself whenever he wants for however much he wants.

But anyway I don't really know where I am getting with this... I guess I just wanna know what people think about the 100's of 1000's of people using the same "formula" and "secret method" making them useless...

If you think it's losing its effectiveness, why does your website look just like all the other "sales letter" type sites? Are you thinking of redoing yours?

Yeah... I'm starting to think people are "tuning out" of letters before even arousing attention because they just all look the same.

So yeah, I'm trying to think of a new angle, but at the end of the day after testing and testing I'll just end up coming back to the same design and copy because it "works"

Hmmmm I dunno

Cool, I wasn't trying to be smart about it I was actually asking a real question. I'm glad your trying some different format, etc for your letter.

The question has no merit.

Either it works or it doesn't.

Used properly, it works.

What you like... or don't like doesn't matter.

It's like John Carlton says... most advertisers get bored with their ads before the market does.

End of story.

Outside the typical "Internet Marketing" and "Biz Opp" areas the traditional Internet "sales letter" seems to be doing just fine. Take for example dietary supplements. While my competitors are doing the product & a price "catalog style" site I'm kicking their butts with a more tightly defined site that features a long sales letter.
