Default Image Headlines - 06-29-2006, 10:46 AM

I noticed that some people are using headlines that are images instead HTML text....

I assume this has tested higher than HTML text headlines, so I was wondering if someone could let me know what program you use to create those image headlines.

Thanks,

Michael

That's what I've been told, but here's something else to ponder...

I haven't personally tested text vs. pictures, but my guess is that text would be better way to go if you are looking to increase your search engine rankings over a period of time, especially if you strategically place your keywords in the text headline.

If someone here knows whether this helps with search engine optimization, I'd be interested to know.

If you are looking for a picture creator, photoshop is great, but it also comes with a huge price.

Macromedia Fireworks is also another good program.

If you're looking for a free program, I would start looking around on Google.

I don't know if graphic headlines convert better or not, but for the reasons Stephen mentioned I think I'd stick with plain old text headlines myself - but like everything you'd really need to test to see what works best in your case. Graphics might convert better, but I would certainly think that'd affect your SEO so it might not be worth the tradeoff.

As far as graphic programs go, Photoshop is what I prefer, but the price tag is steep and the learning cure can be too. I think they still make an entry level program (Photoshop elements) that may be a better choice for you, and I'd also recommend you look into Paint Shop Pro (inexpensive) and http://www.gimp.org/ which is free.

Steve

P.S. Fireworks is a nice program too - but I think your second most expensive option next to photoshop.

Image headlines tend to work best when you want to include a header graphic. In many cases, a header graphic with all or part of the headline in it may outperform one without a header graphic, or outperform a header graphic with no such headline.

For example, check out the header at:

As always, only use it if you get a better response.
