Default Joining the VIDEO craze ... - 05-31-2006, 01:58 PM

Here's my first attempt at producing an online video. I also registered
this domain to use as a video blog. Let me know what you think.

===> http://www.copywriter.tv

I share some of the copywriting resources in my library. This was not
intended as a serious information provider but just to try out the
software I'm toying around with.

Regards,

Ray L. Edwards,

Hi Ray,

Well done - great effort - respek!

Couple of problems for me:

- the video plug-in didn't tell me how long the video was, so I wasn't sure whether it would be 5 minutes or 55 minutes, which obviously determines whehther I'm going to have a quick listen, or have to set aside time

- The video kept buffering - sometimes every sentence or so, which was quite annoying (could be my broadband)

BTW - "Oglivy" is pronounced "Oh-gul-vee" not "Og-liv-ee", if that makes sense.

HTH,
Jane

Thanks Jane for your time in reviewing the video.

I think that I pronounced "Bettger" wrong as well, should be "Betcha"

I have the name as OGILVY instead of Oglivy, is this right?

I think that the streaming problem depends on how many other people
are looking at the vidoe at the same time. I guess I'll have to get
a separate server for this domain.

Couple of things...

#1. You jump around a lot and in the streaming format, it's very visible.

#2. Yes, you need your own server to host video. Not only do I have my own server, I also pay for separate streaming.

The "jumping around" and jittering comes from the digital camera that
I used. It's really made for still pictures not video. I'm now shopping
for a digital camcorder.

Interestingly (and I may be wrong) I lose over 90% of the American
copywriting prospects who first contact me by telephone. According to
Robert Ringer (Winning Through Intimidation) most Americans think
that if you have an accent then you cannot be too smart!

I had a prospective client who asked me several times if I wrote a certain
salescopy after he spoke to me. Although he never said it I know that
my "foreign" accent didn't recommend me to qualify to write that kind
of copy.

I think that video gives you a face and certain honesty (credibility) or
could make you look dumber than you write! LOL. That may be my
case .. but hopefully improvement is on the way.

I don't doubt that's true, but I bet it depends on the accent. I've heard people with British or Australian accents say it actually helps them make sales.

Interesting how prejudices work.

BTW Ray, what is your country of origin?

A.

I'm originally from St. Kitts, Caribbean ( http://www.stkitts-tourism.com/ )

I've been living in the US, mainly New York City, for 12 years and just recently
moved to Florida to get some accustomed sun! Interestingly enough my
speech is so much clearer when I preach than in any other situation.

Working from home has its disadvantages in that I don't talk as much
so I lose my 'flow'. When I was teaching high school and college I flowed
in my speech because I was always in practise.

I have to get out of this rut and do some teleseminars and videos to
get the juices flowing again.

Doc,

What are you using, video generator? Does it work well for you?

I may have SPELT Ogilvy incorrectly, but the pronounciation stands.

I can imagine that Americans probably would have a problem with your accent. Personally I quite like Caribbean accents as I find them very relaxing. If you came here you'd probably have people queueing up wanting to work with you cos we're much more used to it.

Failing that, is there a way of americanising your accent slightly, or putting on a "telephone voice". (Frankly, I'd hate for your accent to be Americanised, but I'm thinking of your income potential here). My mother's Australian, but she'd always speak on the phone as though she was the Queen. Also, my Turkish friend has a very broad Norf Landan accent, and she puts on a telephone voice to make herself sound more posh.

???

I like the accent as well -- it sets you apart!

You really should work on the "um's" though -- way to many "um's"
