Magic! As a teenager I use to do magic for birthday parties and small social events...back then, I really didn't have the money to buy all of the big fancy magic equipment/illusions...

A magician after my own heart...
When I was 13, I started doing children's magic shows. Charged $30 for a half hour show back in 1980. For my age at the time, the thought of $60/hour was great! Too bad I couldn't pull it off full time!
In fact, I had this one children's party where I borrowed a rabbit from a friend, and used a "loading bag" (you magicians will know what that is) to produce it out of an empty brown paper bag previously shown empty.
Well, I was going to pull the rabit out on the count of three. And my father still tells this story to this day (he encouraged my magic, and even got me started in sleight of hand).
Well, I counted slowly to three. And the children were staring wide-eyed. And on the count of three, that 'ol rabbit decided he'd had enough of being in that bag and decided to jump out on his own! I couldn't have timed it better if I tried. What a lucky break!
I think the look of ashtonishment on the childrens' faces was only surpassed by my own!
In fact, I still use close-up magic as an ice breaker in some social and networking events. And when done right, it still makes you the center of the party! Just like copywriting, it still works after all these years.
Of course I have lots of other interests. Usually your interests are what you end up being good at, but sadly, this isn't true of my golfing skills. I'm a hack, but a happy hack. I still enjoy the game.
A guitar player for 19 years, I'm not too shabby there (blues, jazz, rock, and bluegrass...I recently took up the mandolin as well).
Plus many other hobbies too numerous too mention. I just wanted to comment on the magic thing, because that brings back some memories!
