Default New to the Board - 04-19-2006, 11:28 PM

Hi Everybody,

I'm Jack Bastide from Orlando Florida. I'm
originally from Brooklyn but don't hold that
against me

I see a few of my friends are here namely
J.P. Maroney and and Jason Moffat.

I'm actually going to be meeting Jason in
person .. I will let you know if he is as crazy
as his online persona .. my guess is Yes

I look forward to meeting some new friends
here

Jack

P.S. For all of those who will be finishing behind
me in J.P.'s copywriting contest .. Happy 2nd Place

Jack... Brooklyn in the house!

I'm originally from Bensonhurst and lived in Tampa back in the 80's. I'm in LA now though.

I used to work a lot in Otown. The CopaBanana and the Funny Bone comedy clubs.

Welcome.

Hi all.

I'm new to this board as well. I just got into copywriting around oct. 2005 with the AWAI course so I still consider myself a newbie. There's so much to learn still.

I grew up in Hawaii but live in Vegas now. This board and the people here are funny, interesting and provide a great read. I would have wrote sooner but was having some problems with the registration.

Anyways, it's nice to meet everyone.

Katherine

I'm trembling in my boots!

Why do so many Yorkers move to Florida?

I've known dozens of folks from NY that have moved to Florida...

=============================

Nice to have you here Katherine...

Went to Maui last year and Vegas a year before that.

I like the "heat index" a lot better in Maui.

I was actually thinking about moving to Maui until I saw the cost of real estate... OUCH!

Steven,

While I like reading your comments, I'm not sure we need them 3 times in a row! Is this a repetition thing you're trying?

Okay, I know the board didn't seem to take the first 2. I've done it myself.

As for the new yorkers moving to florida thing I think there's a few reasons.

1. It's only 20 hours by car, yet it's a whole different world. Warmth, elbow room, affordable living. It's like a much closer LA to New Yorkers.

2. So many new yorkers are already there. So, it's not like moving to say... Biloxi Mississippi.

3. Retirement: My friends and I used to joke about the elderly population, saying that Florida is where new yorkers go to die.

4. No state taxes. For New Yorkers who are so over-taxed, Florida can seem like living for free!

5. We go there on vacation and dont' want to leave.

That said, I couldnt' stand it for long. I stayed around 7 years. My mother and sister still live there, though.

Before Katrina, we had more NYer's than you might think because of the casinos. It was like the second wave of Northern Aggression. The way we see it, anyone north of Memphis is a Yankee - and all Yankees are from New York!

Jack, Kel, it's good to meet both of you. I'm new too.

Chris

Hey Vin,
My applogies for that...

I don't know what the problem was. I couldn't get it to post earlier. Now I come back and it's there three times... geez!

I truly don't think my comments were worth posting three times.

I would delete the other two, but it won't let me.

Just so Jack doesn't think I'm bashing New Yorkers I'll say that some of my fondest memories as a child was in upstate New York...

-- Beautiful country... especially in the spring!

Chris,
Funny you say this...

When I first moved to Houston, Texas (from Oklahoma), I was pulled over by a couple of Houston police officers for turning the wrong way on a one-way street.

You wouldn't believe the harrasement I got when they saw my Oklahoma driver's license...

"Boy", "anyone living north of "Dallas" is a 'damn yankee' "

JP - I guess this takes you off the hook "yer no damn yankee, er ya? "
