FACT: Html email out-pulls text. Whether we like it or not... its now a fact. If you have to use text though (and both myself and Mike do at times) check out some of the interesting stuff being talked about over at Clickz concerening battling Spam.

I fully understand your postion though and to be honest its driving us all nuts. As a copywriter it can be good for online copy because it makes us think a lot more and find stronger long term solutions for beating the spam traps.

As you know if we use the terms "click here" in email it is a point towards spam. If we use a size 14 font in the headline... another point. If the font is bold and in blue/red... well you know where I'm going. Its not going to go away but if you get your words right it helps.

I recently saw this somewhere.

If you include the date in the subject, you can get major improvement in your spamminess score.
