Default Copywriting Agreements - 02-28-2006, 06:22 PM

Hi everyone,

I'm a copywriter living in Mexico who wants to start marketing his services on a website, and I was wondering how do you guys get written a copywriting agreement document to send to clients for signing and sending back?

Do you hire an Internet law attorney, do you use an agreement template, or do you just write them by yourself following a set of guidelines and key points?

Thanks

Abraham L.

Default My attorney doesn't like it... - 03-01-2006, 10:24 AM

I use a template I was given by a colleague. My attorney would prefer I pay him a lot of money to draft one for me that is more "official"...and I probably shall. If I were you, living in Mexico and doing a lot of business with people in the US, I would have an attorney draft it, as there are additional complications. Better safe than sorry.

Hi Ray, thanks for your response...

The only problem is that Internet law attorneys are scarce, or even non-existent, here in Mexico, and very few attorneys are familiar with the Internet, and only a few know how to write an agreement in English legalese, so it's kind of a problem for me here.

What would you suggest? Also, what are some possible complications that could arise by using my own agreement (like the sample PDF you show on your website), rather than having an attorney write a legalese, mumbo-jumbo agreemeent, specially if I'm doing "international" business from Mexico, mainly with US and UK clients?

Thanks!

Abe

I would recommend getting in touch with Bob Silber. If he can't help you, he may be able to point you in the right direction.
