Has PayPal SCREWED YOU Yet?

I'm starting this thread based on a comment in another thread -- and based on 3 separate individuals mentioned similar situations to me within the last month.

I say that based on my own experience. Last June I had a client pay me around $5000 on his credit card through Paypal. Some three months or so later he did a chargeback. I was left without the money I earned plus I had to pay expenses, etc.

The other stories shared with me go basically like this...

"It doesn't matter if you're right -- and the customer, client or whatever is DEAD WRONG -- PayPal sides with the "buyer" 99.9% of the time..."

AND YOU'RE SCREWED!

Anybody else have similar experiences?

Actually, I have totally different experience.

Paypal has gone to bat for me and gotten me money I thought was lost.

I like Paypal and encourage clients to use it.

Ditto as Harlan. PayPal came through for me three times now.

That's very good to hear... from a couple of credible guys!

The stuff I've heard recently had me a little concerned about how "well protected" the average bear is when accepting PayPal.

I'd like to put in my two cents here...

I have used Paypal for many years and haven't had much trouble until...

A few months ago I closed one of my bank accounts days before someone unexpectedly refunded my money on an eBay transaction.

What a big hassle that was --

Paypal was unable to help me much in this matter. They told me to get with my bank to get the money that was refunded, but because I was no longer a bank customer, they wouldn't help me.

Somewhere between Paypal and my old bank there is $80.00 floating around ... kind of like a "digital twilight zone" of sorts.

I will say that I am the one to blame for this transaction and not Paypal.

Overall, I have never had any other problems with them.

I love paypal .. zero problems and they've sided with me on the 2 instances I had disputes to resolve...

My challenge is, I still see over 65% of my customers favor using a straight visa/mc link to my cc processor, regsoft, vs paypal, even when I offer a discount for using paypal and ask them to use paypal... it's hard for me to get more customers to use paypal ... ideas?

i suppose I should use the merchant gateway service that paypal offers, for a single-page checkout page..

paypal's been great so far..

ken

I had one chargeback because the client didn't recognize my company name on his statement (even though I told him to expect it). Once I told him that was me, he apologized and called back his credit card company to fix it.

I also sent Paypal a couple emails and a fax. Paypal eventually reversed the chargeback in my favor, but it took 3 months or so.

Default Paypal rocks for me so far... - 02-28-2006, 11:21 AM

Based on advice from Harlan about a year ago, I started using Paypal almost exclusively. They have been great to work with, and have helped me out on the one case where I had a problem child client.

I also use their gateway service, which gives me the ability to take phone orders and fax orders; thus far I highly recommend it, though it represents a small percentage of my business.

Keep in mind that I have a low number of transactions (though the per-transaction amount is usually over $5,000).
