Default The "normal" Internet Surfer - 02-07-2006, 09:55 AM

I want to talk about the everyday internet person. We are pretty deep in the internet thing but what do you think of the normal person just surfing.

We have all these tactics, etc to increase conversion. We study, write, and do much more. Does the average Joe know about affiliate links, internet marketing at all in your opinion?

After I've been studying my butt off and started an internet business it made me think. I'm sure my first 5 years of just surfing the net I made a lot of people money and didn't even know it. Clicking peoples affiliate links, ads, etc... It just seems now I'm so much more in tune to what peoples goals are online... It's kinda like a twisted little world.

Opinions?

It is its own incestuous little world -- I didn't know anything about it until six months ago, and I've been a fairly advanced Internet user for a lot longer than that. But I wasn't working in a field that had anything to do with advertising, writing, or marketing, so I had never heard of affiliate links and all the other stuff.

I know quite a few people who just use email, surf a bit...they may buy something online once in a while...but I can see how people like us that are totally immersed in it around the clock could lose sight of how the "average" person functions online.

Exactly! Nice way of putting it.
Like when I looked at my stats and noticed more than half of the people reaching my website didn't use search terms I had even identified.
