I know this is an old discussion; I found it because I was looking for anything having to do with Hispanic marketing... As a Bilingual Copywriter/Translator (English/Spanish), I have worked with many translators who like to translate or edit copy, but they don't particularly like to come up with new copy... In my case, I have always done the copywriter's job of developing new copy in English or Spanish, and have also been responsible for translating it—or have been asked simply to translate copy from one language to the other. I actually enjoy and feel comfortable writing and translating copy. Most of the time I'm asked to write in U.S. "Universal" Spanish (neutral Spanish that can be understood by virtually anyone),

but sometimes I've been asked to give a particular cultural twist to the copy, for example "Mexican Spanish" or "Puerto Rican Spanish", depending on the geographical area where the message will be published. I have worked for a Fortune 500 company and for advertising agencies, and I am now working as a freelance writer/translator.
