Default I need your advice on ebook copyrights. - 10-28-2005, 08:24 AM

Hello, everyone. I would really appreciate some advice...

After finally taking the plunge with ebook publishing, I created an
ebook based on reading notes from selected articles which I then
edited and organized into a coherent whole. Included in the text are
also my own impressions and thoughts about the topic, based on
personal experience.

Two of the authors have basically given their blessing. They made no
mention of any objection to the fact that I've included direct quotations
from their articles (which link to the article online) and some
rephrasings of selected texts.

MY QUESTION - How should I sign the ebook?
- by..?
- (c) 2005 Mysite.come? Margaux Alhanen?
- compiled & edited by..?
- published by..?

At the moment, I've merely put a Copyrights Notice stating that the
material cannot be reproduced without permission from the publisher
(me) and that copyrights to the articles belong to the respective authors.

This is basically the last hurdle that is keeping me from launching
this first ebook online.

Any advice you can spare to shed some light on this topic would be
greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,
Margaux Alhanen

The books I wrote I signed my name and put my (c) sign. Its entirely up to you but the symbol is sufficient to protect you. The fact youve quoted and linked adds further power.

If you want to sign it in your sites name, then its in your business name. If you sign it personally, then its you directly - does that make sense?

Marguax,

There are actually legal differences in, for example, the duration of the copyright, depending on whether it's copyrighted in the name of a person or a company.

At least this was true the last time I studied the U.S. copyright law. Look at www.loc.gov which has a lot of free info on U.S. copyright rules and procedures.
