For you or for a client?

Steve Schiffman(sp) has written several books on cold calling.

Peter Bowerman 2 books The Well Fed Writer & Back For Seconds has several script ideas.

Hope this helps...

Cold Calling Techniques that Really Work!
by Stephan Schiffman

Red-Hot Cold Call Selling: Prospecting Techniques That Pay Off
by Paul S. Goldner

I've read and used both (in a former life) and they will do the trick.

But as I have said here before...

COPYWRITERS ARE THE CURE FOR COLD CALLING!

To quote Clayton Makepeace:

Quote:
"Hey - wake up - you're one of the chosen few: You're a COPYWRITER!

"You've been blessed with the gift of persuasion: The single greatest super-power on the planet. Compared to you, Batman and Wonder Woman are wimps!

"You are a modern-day Obi-Wan, master of the Jedi Mind Trick.

"You are (tatataDAAA) PERSUASION PERSON!!!

"Mere mortals fall helpless, wallets in hand, before your considerable persuasive powers.
Happy persuading!

Eric

No,
This is for a client. They want a cold call script.

Then the two books above should get you going in the right direction.

But, I would still recommend trying to sell your client on the fact that a well written DM piece will be much more effective for lead generation.

This can be followed up with a "phone script", but the benefit of leading with the written copy first is that your clients calls become "warm calls" not cold calls. The closing rate will be astronomically higher.

As true professionals we need to think of ourselves as marketing strategists for our clients. Often, what the client initially asks for is not what will produce the greatest results for them.

In those case it is our responsibility to use our "gift of persuasion" to lead them (and educate them) to the solution that is TRULY in their best interest.

Copywriting is one area of business in which "The Customer Is Always Right" does not always apply. Often the "customer" doesn't know what they really need. That's where we need to put on our "teaching" hat and educate them about a way to accomplish their goals, that they hadn't considered, but that may produce better results.

To continue what Eric is saying about cold-calling ....

A sales letter is a one to many marketing tactic, whereas cold calling is one to one, and therefore costs more in terms of time and effort.

My tuppence hapeth!

Thanks again everyone.
Eric, I ordered :

Red-Hot Cold Call Selling: Prospecting Techniques That Pay Off
by Paul S. Goldner

It'll be here in a few days.

I agree with you on the warm call vs. cold call. I tried to talk the client into sending something ahead of time. He disagrees, and I need the business, so I'll just write the script and remind him that a sales letter will give him much bigger returns.

Thanks again everyone.

I agree.

Out of the two books I recommended, Cold Calling Techniques that Really Work, is my primary recommendation.
