But, I would still recommend trying to sell your client on the fact that a well written DM piece will be much more effective for lead generation.
This can be followed up with a "phone script", but the benefit of leading with the written copy first is that your clients calls become "warm calls" not cold calls. The closing rate will be astronomically higher.
As true professionals we need to think of ourselves as marketing strategists for our clients. Often, what the client initially asks for is not what will produce the greatest results for them.
In those case it is our responsibility to use our "gift of persuasion" to lead them (and educate them) to the solution that is TRULY in their best interest.
Copywriting is one area of business in which "The Customer Is Always Right" does not always apply. Often the "customer" doesn't know what they really need. That's where we need to put on our "teaching" hat and educate them about a way to accomplish their goals, that they hadn't considered, but that may produce better results.
