Default Opt-in Versus Membership? - 09-04-2005, 12:57 PM

What is exactly the diffeence between an opt-in and membership email collection process? What marketing strategies would you use for both? I am a little stuck on this as we have a membership site but not sure if we also should solicit for "general" opt-ins. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a membership site?

One gives access to a special or private site, the other one receives email newsletters or notifications. They're both the same because they are focused on one primary goal: BUILDING THE LIST!

Yep. Go for both. Use the opt-in list to sell visitors on the value of membership.

And use both lists to monetize your backend.
