Default The Worst Ad I Ever Saw. - 07-01-2008, 09:22 AM

I admit it.

I stole.

Yep. Lifted that airline magazine right out of the seat pocket and tucked it in my backpack.

Didn't even want to risk tearing the ad.

It's a classic.

I'm sure being in one of those airline magazines costs a couple of grand.

Four color ad.

I've shown the ad to four people so far. None of them were copywriters.

None of them knew what the ad was about.

And... the best part is...

These guys are realtors.

There site is Myrtle Beach Real Estate, Myrtle Beach Homes and Condos for Sale, Communities and Neighborhoods

And even though there site is bad....

It's nothing compared to the ad.

So all of you rookies thinking you might write something bad.

Wait until I get home and scan this baby in.

Just do us both a favor...

empty your bladder before viewing.

Peace.

Harlan

PS. Can't wait to see if they have a new ad on the way home! Double your pain.

PPS. What's the worst ad you ever saw?

Oh my, there are so many.

One that comes to mind - and I've mentioned it on the board before - is a TV ad that was on Nickelodeon, which my son watches (well, so do I).

A little girls' nose falls off and runs down the street. She chases after it. It runs into a house and she follows it.

There's a boy in the house who is eating cereal. Don't ask me what kind of cereal, who cares? The girl's nose fell off!

I had been thinking how this ad would never make me want to eat that cereal - whatever it is - and a couple of days later, my son, who is 12, said the exact same thing. That it sure didn't make him want to eat that cereal.

I'm sure there are many more really horrible ads lurking in the back of my brain. I'll share them if I can remember them.

Janet

Something makes me...

want to buy cereal!

Madison Avenue is 3 blocks away.

It must be casting its evil spell.

Pssst... Doc, the airline magazine is FREE. You don't have to worry about breaking any of the 10 commandments. "Steal" as many as you want.

TV has a steady stream of clunkers every year.

There's been some really bad ads by Burger King the last few years. Not their hidden camera ones -- those are fairly good.

I'm talking about the ones like the pack of soccer moms trying to run over the "burger king" because of his new sandwich.

They were so bad that my wife saw it on TV one night and said 'what the hell was that supposed to be?'

BTW, Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite places on the East Coast to visit. I've vacationed there about 8 times so far and I don't even golf. The beach and the night life are great.

Later,

Mike

That "Viva Viagra" one immediately comes to mind. You know, where the guys in the band sitting around start playing it.

I could be wrong on this, BUT I think Doc wants your opinion on the worst PRINT ad you've ever seen because he's talking about an ad that appeared in an airline magazine.

Since Doc is talking airline magazines and if you've ever read any of them, they are all beautifully designed (articles and ads). Here's an ad, from a recent issue, that will be ignored like a red headed stepchild:
