When I search for recipes online (which I do all the time), I have to avoid any written by or for the american market, because I simply don't understand them. I can't even guess at the proportions because they mix volumes with weights - neither of which I understand when they say stuff like "2 fluid ounces of milk and a dessertspoon of sugar". Because some American Imperial stuff is the same as ours, and some is different, and I have no idea which is which!
Metric really is easier, and thank god I didn't have to do maths or accounting using non-metric - can you imagine doing trigonometry on triangles that have a side that is 5 and a sixteenth inches long - NIGHTMARE!!
But I still don't understand why American Imperial is different to Imperial - ?????
